Go Gophers!!

If Dre Matheiu is legit then our backcourt just got a whole lot deeper. Dre, Dre, Austin, Malik is a fearsome foursome. Then add in Wally, Mav, and McNeil!

Smart move inviting the donors. I'm not sure if that's new or if it's the norm but it's a good idea regardless.

Dre should probably change his Twitter handle to something a little less obnoxious haha

Dre Mathieu is possibly our least talked about player. I think he was a JUCO All-American, and it seems he will be more than just a body for us this season. I'm kind of excited to see what he brings to the table for this team, I thought I remembered Pitino saying that he's supposed to be a very quick guard.

Yes sir, he was. Looking forward to seeing him play. Hoping he gives the opponent fits on the press.

I just looked at him on UTube. Looks like he brings speed - lots of speed - and then more speed!!

And quick hands as well.

If I remember correctly, he had offers from UCLA and Memphis too.

I think what would help us the most is if he can play with Dre H. at the 2. Would like to see him play 15-20 minutes per game, but don't think he'll score enough to play more than that. I would be concerned with physical PG's though.

Go Gophers!!

Oto made a 3! Wally 2 of 3 from long range. Lots of 3-point attempts - 41 to be exact. Looking forward to a fun brand of hoops.

Interesting to see. Glad Coach P is letting us in a little bit. I'm excited to get my first look of the team on Friday night.

Elliott being able to log big minutes is great. That is a lot of three point attempts (over 50% of all attempts). Hopefully we continue to attack and try and find easy looks. Dre Mathieu had over 45% of his teams 2fg attempts but 10 for 13 from the field is impressive. Joey King needs to have the confidence to play within the arch a little bit too. Hope to see improvements to the Assist to Turnover ratio on Friday.

The team that lost did so because they had 15 turnovers vs. the Maroon winning team with only 10. Ouch, the MVP of the game lead with 6 of those turnovers. Good thing how they practice has nothing to do with how the play in a real game.

What a week of real practice with a new system and you can judge how they will practice the rest of the preseason? Glass halt empty or do you miss Tubby?

Thanks Tubby. We know you'd have gotten Mathieu out of there after the 1st TO. MVP my foot, right?

If you condition the players to learn that after each turnover/mistake they'll be taken out, eventually they will just hold the ball and do nothing with it (other than occasionally pass it around the perimeter). This is what you want from a basketball team.

Was Andre Hollins guarding Mathieu? 10-13 is pretty ridiculous--I don't care about the turnovers if he shoots like that.

Interesting that King had 9 fouls in 27 minutes. Must have been watching Royce the other day.

Nice of them to share this... but I wonder if someone just typed this in. Information doesn't recalculate / foot.

For example, Maroon TP adds up to 63 but shows 58 (and the Total row calcs to 64).
Malik Smith's points recalc to 12 instead of 16 and Dre's recalc to 16 instead of 11.
If you adjust for those rows, you've got 63 - 4 + 5 = 64.

Gold total line recalc is off as well. Looks like total FGM is 2 too high (column doesn't foot).

So... probably fair to assume the boxscore is mostly correct, but it's clearly broken.

GopherHole HOFer Chuck Buggs with 3 pts.

What, people can't be excited about a guy with physical tools like he has? Pitino's pretty much sent the message though that he's got a long way to go, so I'm not surprised to see him not make huge impact here. It appears he's pretty hot and cold, flashes of brilliance, moments of boneheadedness. I'm still excited to see what he can do, but I'm not expecting much from him this year considering how Pitino talks of King.

Speaking of King, 9 fouls? Sheesh, and the maroon team got to the line A LOT.

Just one scrimmage. Peeling back the layers.

Eliason in 28 min: 9 pts, on 2-3. 8 reb, 3 offensive. 3 blocks. 1 turnover. +
Oto in 17 min: 9 pts, 1-4. 3 reb. 1 to. 5-10 on free throws? +/-
M. Smith 29 min: 16 pts, on 4-8, 4-7 downtown. no reb no assists and 3 to. 3pt specialist anyone?+/-
Buggs only getting 14 min: 3 pts, 1 reb, 2 ass, 3 to.-

Maroon wins with the Hollins duo going 2-12 from deep. Andre shooting 4-14.
**Maroon team really took 32 free throws? Must be home team bias. LOL
Mav solid scoring game with 15 pts, including 2-5 from deep.
JKing with 1 rebound in is that 27 minutes? another 3pt specialist?
Weird that McNeil gets 20 min to wally's 19 and not doing anything with them.
Maroon team 6 steals. Gold team 5 steals.

I am not as worried about the turnovers as I am that lack of steals. If your going to play up tempo and undersized I would hope this number would be a lot bigger. We aren't a great ball handling team either so I would have guessed almost double that number. The turnovers should come down as i hope the steals and forced turnovers go up.

Lineup 1:
Dre H., Smith, Austin, Oto, EE. bench: Mathieu, Mo, Mav, Wally, Buggs
Lineup 2:
Mathieu, Dre, Austin, Oto, EE. bench: Smith, Mo, Mav, Wally, buggs
Team is what prognasticators are saying. New up tempo system. Not physical. New guys ready for big ten. Trouble rebounding. Will Jack up lots of 3's. I will be patient. Andre will have to carry this team.

Oto should be better than a 50% freethrow shooter. That guy has to be towards the top of the long list of disappointing Tubby recruits. Royce is easily #1 followed by a grouping of Oto, Bostick, and Sampson.

Oh SH!T!

You did not just do that....

You wanna talk about a thread going to the weeds?!?! Consider that one propeller thoroughly in the weeds...

Oto doesn't have to worry too much about that because he already has himself a sugga momma!
