Don't read anything into Gophers running back Shannon Brooks switching from No. 8 to 27, the former number of record-setting tailback David Cobb.
No. 27 was given to Brooks before the 23-20 overtime win against Colorado State, so both he and Duke McGhee, a safety who also wears No. 8, could play special teams together.
"I didn't really want 27 as a freshman," Brooks said. "(Cobb's) a great player. He's in the League (with the Tennessee Titans), so that's a number that will be remembered at this school."
