per Marcus:
Pitino doesn't appear overly concerned -- at least not publicly -- that his program is down.
"I always thought from Day One that Year 3 was going to have to be a bit of a start-over year," Pitino said. "That's just the kind of reality of it we talked about when I took the job. Just because the first two years were dominated by juniors and seniors.
"I always thought Year 3 we were going to have to get really, really young. So I anticipated getting young. Did I anticipate being 5-5 after 10 games? No, but I would've said at the beginning of the year, we were going to have some great moments and we were going to have some bad moments. When you've got some young guys, that's kind of the way it works."
Pitino can't help but use youth as an excuse. His players also can't help it.
"With this group, it's just all about the growth process," senior forward Joey King said. "The fact that we have so many young guys is just the reality of the situation. So we've just got to move forward every single game. We can't dwell on a three-game losing streak."
