per Marcus:
Richard Pitino's basketball team has shown improvement recently, but the University of Minnesota coach is not holding his breath waiting for fans to come flocking back to games.
Pitino and his players understand the frustration the fan base feels for a team that is winless in the Big Ten, has an eight-game losing streak and losses in 11 of its past 12.
"When this place is rocking, it's very, very tough to beat us," Pitino said. "But I don't think it's rare for fans to be uneasy when you lose. That's everywhere."
The best chance the Gophers (6-13, 0-7) have to win anytime soon will be Saturday against Illinois (9-10, 1-5) at Williams Arena. The next six opponents after that are in the upper half of the conference standings.
One win won't erase the negative feelings in what has been a disappointing season. Home attendance has dropped to its lowest point in more than a decade. But a win would help the Gophers continue to gain more confidence. That's all that matters to them.
"It's not rocket science. You can tell the big games, the crowd is there for you," senior guard Carlos Morris said. "The smaller games, they can get down. They booing you. But it's not about them. It's about the guys that's coming in putting in work every day."
