This season, the Gophers have been much more balanced in the ratio of runs to passes. While they have been playing from behind in portions of three games, Minnesota's plays have been 53 percent runs compared with 70 percent last season.

Kill believes this balance will keep opponents from bunching defenders near the line of scrimmage to stop the run.

"It won't be, 'Whoa, we are playing the Gophers, and we are going to put 13 of them in the box,' " Kill said. "We have to be able to get away from that, so if we get down, we can catch up. We have the capabilities of doing that. We've been very proficient in that also."
