per Greder:
In their fifth practice of fall camp, Gophers football players wore full pads for the first time Tuesday. But there were no "live" segments in which they tackled to the ground, and there won't be many going forward.
Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said the Gophers would have only two or three practices involving full contact before the Sept. 3 season opener against second-ranked Texas Christian at TCF Bank Stadium.
"We spend a lot of time showing tackling fundamentals; we just aren't beating the hell out of each other and taking them to the ground," Claeys said. "We're working on getting kids in position to make the plays."
And the Gophers will not run the legendary all-out "Oklahoma drill," which positions a blocker and a ball carrier against a defender in a few-yard channel.
