PiPress: Gophers QBs under Kill have struggled to become passing threats

Not likely to happen but if Streveler has a good game why would they play Leidner against Michigan given his performance to date?

Bite me. You can't develop QBs in 1 or 2 years. You can recruit QBs that can start as FR or SO but we don't have 5 star Johnny Football here...so we need years in the system. Again, not giving Kill & CO a pass on the transfers...but to think we can take MAC type talent and turn them into starting and effective B1G QBs as Fr or R-Fr starters is kindof idiotic...much like your post and Marcus.

This is year four and there has been nothing of a passing game. I'm not expecting top notch, but they have had nothing resembling a passing game. Quit making excuses.

Your "Bite me" response is quite telling.

Excuses are for losers. There are a lot of teams starting young QBs with as much (or less) recruiting stature than the ones we have, and yet they aren't near the bottom of the country in passing (and after facing two mediocre defenses).

You can blame the coaching staff, the current QB, the backup QBs, the WRs, the TEs...you can blame lots of things, but to excuse piss poor passing offenses and questionable schemes on "youth" while using guys that are not in their very first year in the system is only that, an excuse.

The notion that this is going to make it difficult to recruit WR argument is suspect. I believe there is plenty of evidence in the form of Gibson, Gentry, Elmore, Holland, Kra.., Wozniak, Maye, Wolitarsky, etc.

To lay out the logic:
First, everyone agrees the last four has been bad passing.
Last year's WR crop was fantastic.... One of the best I can recall talent wise. Especially if you include the TE talent.
Croft is a high caliber QB recruit.
Thus, we will not have trouble attracting WR recruits or QB recruits.

Will Jerry Kill and Limgrover have trouble keeping their jobs? Not if we win.

I don't care if we don't complete a pass for the next fifty years. Winning creates job security. I know that's a bit hyperbolic, but the logic is clear, and it really just boils down to we're not comfortable as fans watching the team mostly run. I hope we get a lot better at passing. Seems like we have an opportunity for further improvement if we do. Nonetheless, we are in every game. I think criticism should be tempered until they that changes.

Fair post, but you lost me at the end. Did you already forget about the TCU game? How about vs. Iowa or @Michigan just last year? I agree, if the running game-only can win every game - nay, almost every game - and the football program is dominant, then stick with it. But the data do not support that argument, not at this time, anyway.

The problem with that is we won't win many games if we can't pass better.

I think if it's a building process and we see wins while improving other aspects of the program, then we're fine.

TCU is not as bad if the QB didn't turn it over. Heck, we still might have won that game; but surely were competitive, despite our passing.

Do we win at Michigan and iowa last year; yup, probably do. That would make 9 and 10 wins. Which would rank as the best season ever. So, I think the data does support it.

I totally agree we could be better, but we cannot ignore that we are much better right now relative to the teams we've had around lately. Moreover, 4 big ten wins, so it isn't just the cup cakes.
