PiPress: Gophers basketball: Rodney Williams healthy but might not start

Good for Tubby. Make him want it. Tubby is not worried about his conditioning, he's been running and playing. He's worried about the condition of Williams' mindset.

Not that he's going to finish his career on the bench, but this starts to become eerily like what happened to Sampson last year.

It seems that Tubby could have simply said that Elliot matches up better with Zeller so Rodney will come off the bench. Neither Rodney nor Trevor are a good matchup to cover Zeller down low. The lame excuse about conditioning is tough to swallow since Rodney was able to play and he's been able to run for a week in practice. Bad, I concur with you about this looking similar to what happened to Sampson last season.

True. The conditioning excuse is lame also because Tubby often pulls his starters after 5 minutes.

Ralph did not play in the Big 10 tourney or NIT because he suffered an injury which was widely reported. He was healthy and strong in his last game on senior day , but suffered an injury in practice in preparation for Big 10 tourney which ended his season and caused him to miss all nba predraft workouts. That is fact and everything else is pure speculation.

We need Rodney healthy if we want to make a run at the end of the year now. We actually got better without Ralph, I don't see the same without Rodney. We obviously don't have enough of a bench for that.

The team did not get better without Ralph. The team played lesser competition and went on a run against mostly mid major competition. This is the same team plus Mbawke and I don't remember any games the past few years as poorly played as the last few games.

I do.

3/5 NIT games were against Miami, Washington, and Stanford. La Salle is heading towards the NCAA tournament this year. Good enough competition for me to feel that we had improved, albeit slightly. I was always a fan of RSIII, but the team did become more fluid and attacking with him off the court. They were so close to pulling off that upset of #10Michigan in OT in the B1G Tourney as well. Here's to hoping we see the same 'Dre from the end of last year and against Memphis from Atlantis.

The problem with Rodney, playing against good teams that have size in the 4 spot, is that Rodney becomes ineffective on offense because he will not get easy inside baskets, he offers little outside scoring, and he isn't a very good passer. He is also a liability on defense because he is to small to match up inside against a bigger player and will not be able to rebound effectively. With Rodney playing the 4 is also gives Trevor a bad matchup when he has to play against a bigger talented center. They have much better matchups playing Eliason at center, Trevor at the 4 and Rodney at the 3 and trying to rebound and run.

I agreed with you everything you said until this. Remember, the reason Rodney's at the 4 is because he played so much better there than as a 3 where he pretty much had to put the ball on the floor & shoot a jumper. I'll take Elliot, Trevor & Coleman at the 3 with Rodney being first off the bench to replace Elliot or Trevor.
