per Marcus:

When the University of Minnesota men's basketball workouts begin with the onset of summer school next week, sophomore guard Nate Mason will still be recovering from thumb surgery.

That could give incoming freshman Kevin Dorsey a chance to prove himself an immediate starter, a goal he has set for himself.

"I want to show coach I have the ability to start as a freshman," he said.

The expectations are pretty high for the top prospect in third-year Minnesota coach Richard Pitino's recruiting class. The four-star point guard from Clinton Christian (Md.) High School will be among seven new recruits joining the Gophers for the first time on Saturday.

"I've been in the gym every day just going hard," Dorsey said. "If I really put my mind to it and focus, I can really turn the program around. I'm not saying the program is down or anything, but I can really make a huge impact."

How many days/weeks before school starts do most or all of these guys make it to campus?

I believe Mcbrayer, Dorsey, Murphy, Johnson, and Lynch will be on campus this weekend. Gilbert is coming on the 18th. Not sure about Davonte Fitzgerald.

I have a tough time seeing Dorsey upending Mason for the starting PG spot.....considering how good Mason played this past year. Pitino will find a way to get both on the floor if Dorsey shows that he is as capable as we all hope.

Mason can play off the ball so there won't be an issue at all if Dorsey proves he's capable handling the PG spot.

I see Dorsey at the 1, Mason at the 2, King at the 4, Konate at the 5, and the 3 is wide open. Could see Murphy, Buggs, or Morris

No competition from Jarvis at the 1 now, I guess.
