Pinch me if this happens...

Both Iowa and Wisconsin feel like they need their defense to win the game. Period.

So some good Gophers news over the last few days / hours.

With weekend football coming up, this is the dream Saturday scenario.

11:00 AM - Gophers soundly beat Illinois. No injuries. Game is over by 2:00 PM. Meanwhile we see OSU beats Nebraska by 40 points. At halftime, Trev Alberts announces they are extending Frost for 7 more seasons.

2:30 PM Wisconsin goes to Rutgers. Mertz throws 4 picks. WI loses 31-10.
Michigan St beats Purdue. Score doesn't matter.

6:00 PM Iowa plays Northwestern. Evan Hull runs for 220 yards and 3 TD's. Iowa plays Petras and he does nothing, then they try his backup and he's worse. Since NW doesn't turnover the ball, Iowa can't score. NW wins 21-2.

With three games left, Minnesota is 5-1, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Iowa are all 3-3.

I don't much care about Purdue, because they aren't going to be a factor. They get Sparty and OSU in the next two weeks. That will take care of itself.

Rutgers isn't good yet, but on the way to getting respectable. They are plucky and with the right breaks they could win. I don't foresee it, because Wisconsin sees a title and they are making their play for it.

Iowa losing at Northwestern doesn't seem likely. Iowa's defense is good enough and Northwestern's offense is terrible after Hull. They have nothing. But we've seen miracles before, so who knows.

If Purdue beats Sparty, Purdue will be sky-high. It would mean that they've beaten the team ranked #2 nationally twice in the same season.

Unless Wisconsin gets travel fatigue, or sleep walks into the game, the Badger defense is just too good. Robb Smith is the current Rutgers defensive coordinator.

Iowa's offense has scored a total of 14 points in their last eight quarters of football.
