So some good Gophers news over the last few days / hours.

With weekend football coming up, this is the dream Saturday scenario.

11:00 AM - Gophers soundly beat Illinois. No injuries. Game is over by 2:00 PM. Meanwhile we see OSU beats Nebraska by 40 points. At halftime, Trev Alberts announces they are extending Frost for 7 more seasons.

2:30 PM Wisconsin goes to Rutgers. Mertz throws 4 picks. WI loses 31-10.
Michigan St beats Purdue. Score doesn't matter.

6:00 PM Iowa plays Northwestern. Evan Hull runs for 220 yards and 3 TD's. Iowa plays Petras and he does nothing, then they try his backup and he's worse. Since NW doesn't turnover the ball, Iowa can't score. NW wins 21-2.

With three games left, Minnesota is 5-1, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Iowa are all 3-3.

I'd take any one of those things happening. Although, I'm kind of feeling like we want Purdue looking better with another big win and MSU likely ending up with 2+ losses for bowl slotting.

Slim chance of all those happening but do we get to choose where to pinch?

I like how in your dream scenario, Iowa gets a safety even while being dominated

I have felt like Rutgers was gonna upset someone all year. Came close to getting Michigan. I’d love nothing more than to see them get Becky this weekend. It’s certainly within the realm of possibility with it being played in Piscataway.

We want to win out and have Ohio State win out. Then have everyone else beat each other up in the East.

I’d take the back door in to championship, but it’s not my ideal scenario.
I wouldn't mind it if we had this thing sealed up with two weeks to go.
You know, do it the easy way. Go into the last two just to keep the winning streak going while we wait and see who we play in the East.

Also give Gophers fans some extra time to plan their trip to Indy.

Actually Michigan St winning out and the Gophers winning out would be even better - then we would get the Spartans in the Big Ten Championship game!!
We would beat MSU.
Their run defense is bad.
We'll just get a 14-7 halftime lead and do the same thing in the 2nd half. 28-14 final.

We take a lead, and then grind the clock down. In classic pro wrestling terms: the sleeper hold!

Even if this happens, there's still probably no getting around needing to win at least one of the Pig or Axe. Frankly I don't want a West win if they can't do that.

538 has the Gophers at 47% to make CFP if they were to win out. I imagine it's slightly higher if the opponent were Ohio State (it's someone else in 50% of their sims)

Oh, I agree.
I'd just like to go into Iowa with a nice cushion. Beat them. Clinch it. Win two more games just to but games between everyone.
Win the West by 3 games (and tie-breaker).

I'll take some of that Kool-Aid. Hey, its what dreams are for!

If I can have a dream scenario…Wisconsin wins their next 3…we win our next three…and then we face them with everything on the line and beat them by 40. Not be given it because everyone else sucks.

What, pray tell, is the ideal scenario? Winning the division with the best record doesn’t matter how you got it. Your idea scenario is possibly having a chance to not win the division? Confusing.

How “Minnesotan”.

Try to enjoy, no matter what what your brain tells you.

I said I’d be happy with a back door scenario. But the ideal scenario is we’d win out and so would Wisconsin, Iowa, and Purdue. Wanting to finish as high as possible in the final polls is pretty straightforward.

If this does happen, as unlikely as it is, would all we need is to beat Indiana to win the West?

I will do better. :horse:

All of this is why we wanted WI to beat IA.

I would like us to win out with no injuries.
Wisconsin win out to Axe game with significant injuries. I mean double digit injuries. Then after we beat them, we could listen to all the cheeseheads complain about how their team was short handed and too beat up to compete!

All of this is why we wanted WI to beat IA.
Assuming wisconsin loses another game.
people wanted WI to beat wisconsin to make WI@MN be the biggest game of the year instead of Mn@IA

I wanted it to be MN@IA for the division because Iowa sucks

You still believe that, even after watching Wisconsin take apart Iowa? It's totally fine, but I still would've strongly preferred that the West come down to one game between MN and Iowa. That's even more clear to me after last Saturday. My ideal outcome would've been Iowa playing exactly as poorly as they did, but Wisc playing slightly worse. It's now patently obvious that Wisconsin is far superior to Iowa and MN will need to beat both teams unless some of the craziness in this first post ensues.

FTR, I still think MN will beat both Iowa and Wisc making the result of that game moot.

Wisconsin is going to be a tough out. Top two defense in the nation. Offense that has potential to be functional.

Iowa is a top 20 defense and an offense with little potential to be functional
