Go Gophers!!

I can't believe the U would put blue on their helmet when they are playing PENN STATE! How foolish!

/sarcasm

I'm going to get torn a new one for saying this, but I think teams are going a little overboard with this stuff (e.g. pink, military).

There are a MILLION other ways in which you can appreciate something or raise awareness for something.

And please don't say something like I hate or don't support (fill in the blank) because I don't like stickers/gloves/etc.

It's like the stupid debate over presidential candidates wearing American Flag pins. "So-and-so's American Flag pin was 1/2 inch bigger so he is more patriotic".

Northwestern has a FLAG helmet for their Wounded Warriors game on 11/16 v Michigan. I'm sure someone can post the pic. I'm not that talented, I saw it on Twitter.

yuck, please stop. it looks like a 1st grade color it in assignment gone horribly wrong

Love the sentiment and all for military appreciation for all they sacrifice for our country but being honest not crazy about the look of that helmet. Maybe just a bad angle on the picture but it looks really strange. Hopefully it will look better on game day.

we better have our gold pants on. If we go all maroon at home this will look stupid. Hate it when there is no gold.

+1

This would've looked very nice with our White Helmets...

I like it. I don't worry so much about the uniforms any more, as such. I just want us to have a little leg of roast lion. See you Saturday!

I want our uniform to be "our uniform". I'm not a fan at all of this helmet logo. It's possible to appreciate the military without doing this. I'll also add, no disrespect meant to military members past and present, but the way the local teams have embraced this gimmick at some point in the past decade crossed the line from appreciation to exploitation. The worst offenders by far are the Vikings (they actually had guys take the oath of induction to either the army or marines on the field before a game once or twice which seemed very out of place) although the Twins are catching up. The Gophers aren't as bad, but this helmet logo still gives me feelings that likely aren't what the program intended.

Recruits like change-ups... its nice to have different selection of uniforms to keep the looks fresh...

Not a fan of this sort of thing. Guess I hate America.

I'm a veteran myself, and I remember the days when flags were for flying on flagpoles, rather for them to be articles of clothing. I'm fine with recognizing veterans, but this seems to be getting exploitative. Northwestern's looks way over the top. Then again, these days people will fly a flag until it is disintegrating, without knowing that you're supposed to replace it when it begins to get worn.

The flag looks better as a flag. It seems exploitative to me, too.

So much of this stuff is around recruiting. Every week we see a video of a teams Halloween gimmick or some coach dancing in the locker room. Maybe Joe Blow will come here to play if we can get our coaching staff to do a dance.

Why not keep it simple and replace the M on the collar of the jersey with a flag for the game?

If Jerry Kill twerks, I'm bailing on this team... However, I am confident that he won't.

It is improper etiquette to put the flag on clothing unless it is a uniform (military, police, cub scout, etc.).

Use of the Flag in Jewelry, Commercial Products, Wearing
Apparel, and Advertising
The Flag Code addresses the impropriety of using the flag as an article of
personal adornment, a design on items of temporary use, and item of clothing.48 The
evident purpose of these suggested restraints is to limit the commercial or common
usage of the flag and, thus, maintain its dignity. The 1976 amendments to the Code
recognized the wearing of a flag patch or pin on the left side (near the heart) of
uniforms of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic
organizations. The Code also states that the flag should never be used for
advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever.

I'm not a fan of this either. What started as a simple reminder ribbon decal on the back of helmets or pins on coach collars, has turned into this wholesale blitz of gloves, helmets, etc. I too wish it would stop. I remember how impactful it was during times of national crisis when teams put a simple US flag on the front shoulder of their jerseys, temporarily. It was great. Now, if you aren't dressed up like those Northwestern uniforms above, you aren't catching anyone's attention. There are a gazillion wonderful causes, just like there were years ago. But, there are only 12 college football games.

It won't be long and teams will be celebrating that one game a year where they wear special uniforms to celebrate "school colors day".
