Go Gophers!!

Are we now Ohio State West?

That's total BS

Call me an old inflexible fart if you will, but school colors should mean something. There is a very minimal thin outline of maroon that requires blowups in the photo to show it, and won't be visible at all when they're on the court. Gold isn't even included. I think that sucks. Fricking gray (excuse me, Anthracite)? Let's just wear different colors every week...blue and orange? Sure, we'll wear that against Iowa! Red and black? Why not, that'll be for Homecoming against Purdue!

I am an inflexible old fart and I think these are fit for the dumpster.

I'm a flexible old fart. I like a few different looks. This is ok by me.

No we aren't......it's called common sense. Why have school colors if the sports teams aren't going to wear them?

I'm really tired of hearing "the kids like them and it helps recruiting" Are 'kids' really that shallow?

Hey, if you don't like the school colors for uniforms.....go play somewhere else.

not sure you guys heard the news: we recently changed our school colors to anthracite, bronzite, periodite and pietersite. real nice combo.

Nice. I wonder if these replace or are in addition to last years alternate road black uniforms?

No, if they come here to play. Yes, if they choose to go elsewhere.

I'm a traditionalist. Bring back maroon and gold.

Vendor Rep: "We have an excess of gray material this year. Are you sure we can't make gray uniforms for you this year?"
Athletic Dept. Buyer: "I don't think so. We are the Golden Gophers, and our other school color is Maroon."
Vendor Rep: "Come on. I'll give you a good deal. Just call it "Anthracite" and people will think it's trendy instead of boring, old gray. They'll be so impressed with your creative color scheme that they won't even remember that it isn't a school color!"
Athletic Dept. Buyer: "Oh, ok. Can I order them for the men, too?"

I love Maroon and Gold as well, but kids love the Anthracite (Dark Grey) stuff. If you look at Nike's team gear, it's very popular color and is not new or "made up". It's been around for a couple years. Oregon had packer colors (with a lighter green) and they have adjusted and KIDS like it. It's ok to be Trendy

So in Stollings' first 2 years, the Gophers wore primarily black last year (on the road) and this year she'll be introducing gray?

Makes perfect sense.

Anxious to see what alternate color we'll have in 2016-17.

(Or is my memory of the black uniforms last season incorrect?)

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Doing away with school colors for uniforms would be a NO!

Anthracite? What the heck. We could burn them and help heat the Barn!!!

I call BS. Kids may love gray workout wear, but that doesn't mean they want their team unis to be gray. I suppose every team could wear gray. That way they could both be trendy and no one would know who had the ball. Where is the identity and pride if you ignore your school colors? Kids today would love the Maroon and Gold as much as past generations if they didn't keep making stupid decisions like this. This is simply apparel companies pushing a trend and Athletic Department buyers signing off on it.
We whine when the FB fans don't comply with a "gold out" but it's no wonder when our own school can't get the colors right. There are plenty of design opportunities to be creative without abandoning the color scheme.

Good point

On the positive side...there should be a healthy cheering section from the geology department...

Didn't like the black, don't like the gray. Perhaps they will get real creative next year and go with the school colors. What a concept.

On second thought, perhaps they are working their way around the Big 10 by saluting each school. Last year they honored Iowa, this year it's Ohio State. Who will they honor next year? Will it be green and white to honor Michigan State? Red to honor the Badgers?

That's why numerous other schools and teams the last three years have added a grey or anthracite jersey? They have all lost their pride too? We are honestly late to the party with these colors. I'm not saying maroon and gold is bad. I personally prefer them, but kids like different color schemes. It's what's in right now. Call bs all you want, but I hear it from players mouths and they enjoy having more color options. Just be thankful it's not neon.

Thank god General Grant didn't ok those alternative road uniforms during the Civil War. They were popular with the troops, but very confusing on the battlefield.
