Phillip Daniels already linked to Ohio State, tampering?

OL didn’t seem as good this year, but produced an all- American, had a true sophomore playing center, a role he had never played, and had a backup, become starter, that tOSU wants.

I think with two transfers in for competition we will be ok.

Center was an issue and needs to improve dramatically.

I have no ill will towards any kid that returns home to play for their dream school.

You can't impress NFL scouts sitting on the bench behind better players so Daniels better bring his "A" game to Columbus. They won't give a crap about where he's from if he's not one (1) of their Top 2 OTs.

That's what I don't get. Doesn't he realize that they will be going hard after 4 and 5 start lineman the entire time he's there?

I'd be impressed if he finished his career (starting) there.

Daniels might be another Bucky Irving story ... or he might be another Ky Thomas story. Time will tell. I'm pretty certain of one thing: a RS freshman with three or four B1G starts at RT is not being promised a starting OL spot at tOSU. So, Daniels traded a starting spot here (with essentially guaranteed NIL money for the balance of his college career) for, I suspect, more NIL money in 2025--but who knows in later years, if he doesn't crack the OSU line-up?--and being in the mix for playing time at OL at a helmet school. Good luck to him. For his sake, I hope his is the Bucky Irving story, not the Ky Thomas.

I’ve said in the past that Fleck should be recruiting Cincinnati hard. A Cincinnati 3 star has played significantly better competition than high school fb in other midwestern states. The 4 big Catholic all boys schools and big public schools churn out a lot of talent . Top 5 draft pick OSU’s Paris Johnson Jr played tackle his senior year at Princeton HS. (3 years at St. X who wouldn’t grant him early Graduation) might have had some influence on his transfer . They played together for a year.

You'd be surprised how close our OL is to tOSU's. Skill player play and play calling can make an OL look a lot better.

Ohio State has struggled for several years to get enough good guys on the OL. It's the primary reason for their "struggles" this year. I bet he starts for them. Plus, they get a local kid that is more likely to stick around. Being close to family and friends and playing for your dream school is important to a lot of kids. The decision isn't ONLY based on money and I bet the differences in NIL aren't all that large except for the truly elite so other factors play even a larger role.

This is another reason why I think we see PJ's increased focus on local recruiting. It's easier AND slightly cheaper to keep them around. These kids are significantly younger than pro players and their average salary is substantially lower so staying local has more allure.

I think ours was better this year and I don't think ours was great.

Ohio State has as good of a WR room as many NFL teams. Ohio State has a better RB room than most NFL teams. They have very good QBs and they only averaged 2 more points per game than Illinois (5 more than us).

It didn't just seem that way. They weren't very good. The statistics say so.

The dude has highly recruited high 4-stars in front of him and coming up behind him. Is he OK with sitting on the bench at OSU?

Eleven warriors seems to think he will start. I'll admit I got this wrong, I didn't think a RT who only started four games with average PFF grades in the mid 60's would be such a hot commodity. I just assumed OSU could do better but can't really knock the kid if he grew up dreaming of being a Buckeye. Onward and upward

here's my analogy:

I'm driving down the freeway doing 71 mph. Some guy passes me going 85.
and I yell into the night, "he's speeding."

But as long as there are no state troopers on the freeway, the speeder is going to keep speeding with no penalty.

so I have two choices. keep going 71, or speed up to 85 because "the other guy got away with it."
but my Minnesota brain tells me that if I speeded up to 85, that's when a cop would show up.

(my other choice - move to South Dakota......but who wants to live in South Dakota....)
Well…since both drivers are drunk and going through a school zone, I’m mad at both of you.

Life in the Big Ten with Michigan & OSU vs MN: 1) game becomes uncomfortably close: benefit from a phantom offsides call at a critical moment; 2) need help on the O-line—poach a Gopher tackle. Response: go to Columbus and kick Ryan Day’s rear in 2025.
