Look at San Diego States passing stats since Hoke took over. Three years ago with Chuck Long as head coach, San Diego State could not pass worth a wet fart. Now, they are one of the leading passing schools in the country, AND they have a good running game. Even with unknown talent and two star recruits their offense is awesome.

After the game, Hoke downplayed his meeting with Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi, the Union Tribune reported, saying "I don't think I heard much of anything." He said the hourlong meeting was a chance for Maturi to talk about the program and Minnesota's facilities, and that he hasn't heard from Maturi since.

Maturi had an hour to sell the Gopher program to Hoke, with Hoke saying afteward, "I don't think I heard much of anything." This is my concern with Maturi being the face of Minnesota for recruiting our next head coach. He isn't a salesman, he doesn't seem decisive, and he often says things he shouldn't. That's not a recipe to lure a top head coach to what is perceived to be an average program. Also, coaches at this level more often than not equate strong personalities with success. Unfortunately, Maturi doesn't publicly come across as a strong personality. Hopefully, he has a different demeanor when conducting business.

Really good point - and to think that Maturi could land a big fish. He is lame. :banghead:
 


Did you expect Hoke to give details about the conversation? Once sentence without probably any menaning at all - other than downplaying having had the conversation- and we're ready to burn Maturi at the stake once again.

I also believe J-Mat is in way over his head, but it's not possible to know what's going on based on Hoke's quote. For instance, Hoke said he didn't learn anything, yet also said J-Mat filled him in on what the U has to offer in facilities, etc. That's a contradiction. What concerns me is I hope the U doesn't hire this guy after a one hour meet & greet. If it were Nick Saban that's different, but Hoke needs to sell the U, not the other way around.
