3. RASHOD BATEMAN, MINNESOTA
There may not be a better route runner returning to college football than Rashod Bateman, and he has excelled against defensive backs in off coverage, averaging over 14 yards per target when the defense chooses to give themselves a cushion.

Bateman finished the 2019 campaign 13th in PFF receiving grade at 89.0, and with his elite route-running, Bateman has produced the third-highest rate of receiving plays of 15-plus yards at 37.9% — over 18% above the FBS average.

As we’ve covered elsewhere, the three biggest things you want to see from a wide receiver are the ability to create separation with route running, the ability to win in contested situations and the ability to produce after the catch. Bateman is one of few returning wide receivers who did all three of these at a high level in 2019; he ranked in the top 20 in contested-catch rate and broken tackles while producing an above-average rate of targets with a step or more of separation downfield.

I for one think he’s really good

Next year will most definitely be his last year here, he’ll be a first rounder after next year. Hands down.

The only bad thing about Bateman is that we are only getting him for 3 years not 4! Dude is a STUD.

Yep, as long as he stays healthy (knock on wood) it would be pretty shocking not to see him go pro after next season. Then again, he does have a RTB tattoo so you never know, maybe he will choose to stick around :)

This kind of press and all the hype that will almost certainly follow Bateman this coming season will do nothing but help us with future WR recruits. Who would have thought just a few short years ago that we would have the #3 returning WR in the country according to anyone?

I know he likes it here, but I’m guessing he’d declare now if he could. Millions and millions and millions of dollars.

Yeah, if he is still on the roster for the 2022 season something probably went sideways in 2021. He is clearly a 1st round talent and while it does happen (Brown for Auburn being one example) those guys rarely stick around.

But until the day comes where he officially declares for the draft I plan to hold onto hope that he sticks around for 4 years no matter how unlikely it seems.

In at least one of Urban Meyer's BTN film sessions, he commented how good Bateman was at accelerating and getting quick separation from D backs. High praise. Love watching that kid play.

Can we talk about how great of a name Charleston Rambo is?

With a last name like that, it's tough to go wrong no matter what first name you choose.
Thad Rambo?
Milhouse Rambo?
Stacey Rambo?

They all work.

I know a girl who's first name is Rambo. And it doesn't matter what her last name is either! It works...she is sizzzzzilling hot!

AJ Barker's mom's best friend had a hunch...

Don't get ahead of yourself. We have next year, go to every game you can and watch the kid play. Goes all out on every play, not just when his number is called. His blocking is part of what makes him special. #13 RTB

Does anyone know Rashod's middle name? Is there any chance it starts with a T? #RTB

Which of these WRs will shine this coming season? Nnamdi Adim-Madumere, Mike Brown Stephens, Peter Udoibok, Eric Gibson, and Jornell Brooks.

I assume Tutu Atwell (Louisville) in the article is the son of the former Gopher great? Wacker didn’t win many games but the pair of Atwell and Thelwell could play.

Bateman will be the #1 WR coming out after next season.

Continued recognition for Bateman and Minnesota Gopher football. The number one receiver is from LSU and they praised him for his ability to beat press coverage. Just below his name? Tyler Johnson. Yes, we were really blessed this past season.
