Perich and Ersery 2nd Team All-American by Sporting News

I'm beginning to think this Perich guy is going be alright.
I have been watching football long enough that you can just recognize players that are different, more gifted. It's obvious when you see that kid out there that he's destined to be a great player and if he keeps doing what he's doing he could also be great in the NFL.

Some of these kids you just see it right away and he's one of them. It's like the first time you saw Adrian Peterson or Randy Moss in an NFL game and you were like, "that dude ain't like the rest of these guys".

Maxx Williams was like that for me. Too bad he had so many injuries.

Have seen that a few times.....one of the first was when I was doing some work for Holy Angels football when a certain Larry Fitgerald was playing for them....you could tell even in high school that he was going to be special.

For the Gophers it was Maroney. When he touched the ball you felt like he might take it to the house every time. Didn't translate to the NFL but he was a phenomenal college back.

Perich has a chance to be a truly special player if he keeps working hard and developing. Going to be fun to see how his career progresses.

He has brought a “I’m just plain better than you and I’m going to let you know about it while I’m backing it up” attitude that the Gophers haven’t had for a very long time…

Yes, I'm a big wrestling guy. I used to be the ratings editor for the Guillotine. They're the magazine that does the high school wrestling rankings for MN. I used to be in charge of doing the class AAA ratings and wrote other articles for them too. I did recruiting analysis too for Intermat.

I saw the same thing in wrestling with kids like Mark Hall, Destin McCauley, Gable Steveson...ect And most recently with Max McEnelly. McEnelly is a phenom, kid might win a National Championship as a redshirt freshman, not common in college wrestling. 15-0 as a true freshman.

I think when you pay a lot of attention to any high school or college sports and evaluate talent you just know when you see athletes like these.

I felt the same way when I first saw Maroney.

I'm a little surprised that Ersery is not 1st team.
Ersery didn’t make First Team AA on any of the 5 teams used to pick consensus AA. He made 2 second teams and 1 third team. Seems like Gopher all-star candidates don’t get quite the love that they should.
