Per Rivals: Dinero Moss a Gopher

Look at our boy Jerry...just gettin all sorts of money

Oh Daniel, I am actually just stating the obvious that the odds are not good to keep a commitment from a kid who has never seen the school, regardless of the school. Add in the fact that the kid is a big Miami fan as well. I prefer to wait until a little closer to signing day and after he has taken his officials to get to excited. If he states that he will only take an official to Minnesota then that would be a positive sign.

Hmm, funny...I could swear that we didn't see this type of admonishment from you when we received a commit earlier last week from a different Florida recruit who has never seen the school. Let me check....

(checking Ballesteros thread)

Nope. Nothing there from you.

Now what could be the difference between these two Florida commits, neither of whom have ever seen the school?

They both play defense, so that can't be it.

They are both from Miami, so that can't be it either.

Man, what is the difference? It's right there in front of me. I just can't put my finger on it...

Or maybe some of us actually have to work and cannot spend all day every day on a message board responding to every thread. By the way have you got your layoff notice yet from the state since you clearly are a non essential university employee spending all day on a message board on the unversity's dime.

God, you suck in so many ways. Just admit that the only reason you care about this commit is because he has a Nebraska offer.

University employees are not state employees, so the potential government shutdown does not affect my empoyment status in any way whatsoever. One would think that a University of Minnesota alumnus would realize that the University is a self-governing entity apart from the state government. Then again, one would think that a Husker/fake Gopher fan would stick to his own boards and not bother real Gopher fans by making personal attacks that have nothing to do with Gopher football.

Love the name, so I love the commit. Yep, I'm that shallow. LOL

On a serious note, he seems pretty adamant about getting away from home, and his mom went to school in this state, that makes me feel like he could be more solid. But interesting, you'd think Minnesota kids were the only ones who wanna ever leave their home states the way we talk sometimes lol

I'm not sure how many times we need to see this exact same thing take place before people can acknowledge these sort of commits are 50/50 at best. I'm happy with defensive players and I'm happy with kids comitting early. Commiting to a team half way across the country without visiting the campus does raise some red flags though. Hope he sticks, but no use counting this chicken for quite awhile yet.

I bet it's better then 50/50. For one thing it's not like we are his first bcs offer, and if he wanted to try to use his verbal to jockey for position wouldn't he be better off choosing Nebraska?

Gophergod, displaying personal information re: a fellow poster is ban worthy.

Great commit!

There's no track record of kids de-committing from Kill yet, so we'll have to see.
My bet is he sees our open depth chart with a new coaching staff as early playing time, combined with his mom going to college here to vouch for the area made for a good combo.

We're looking better at DB with Montgomery, Moss, and the developmental types we picked up late(Wells, Thompson, Cobb) Along with Bouie and Vereen, there's at least more guys available to compete for spots down the road.

Yep Ole good post! Kill is going after DB hard and we are starting to see some decent numbers. This kid is a signficant commit (knock on wood he stays committed). He already had recruits from several other BCS schools including a helmet school (Nebraska).

Levine
Wells
Thompson
Montgomery
$ Moss
(we'll probably add another 3ish DBs too), to go along with Vereen and Bouie....it's starting to look a bit better back there.

I hope so 50. It was musical chairs at times during the Brewster era.

This raises a question regarding Coach Kills recruiting approach. Does he have a set policy similar to what Ferentz did by pulling an offer if a verbal visits other schools?

I think Brewster allowed it with maybe an exception or two. I know Mason did.

I really tired of the musical chairs to the extent that while I paid attention to the recruiting process under Brewster, I didn't get all bubbly when a top-tier kid gave a verbal. We lost two or three as the process wore on during Brewster's last recruiting class (notably Huff and Hawkins) and I got the impression that a lot of kids "parked" with us while figuring out what they really wanted to do.

My impression of Kill is that he promotes himself as "all business" and expects those around him, whether it's the coaching staff, university, or the kids he recruits, to be "all business" as well. It doesn't make him better than anyone, but it does make him different.

Maybe get Morris too?

From MOC on Gopherillustrated:

New Gopher linebacker coach Bill Miller came to Minnesota with a reputation of being a great coach, but he is proving to be a top-notch recruiter as well. He has already landed two south Florida commitments for the Gophers and could be close to another with versatile defender [db]Barrington Morris[/db] of Piper

He looked good in the moss highlight tapes, seemed like the opposing QB was flushed alot.
6'3ish 230-240ish is a good size for a DE/LB type HS kid.

I'm seeing a trend of position flexibility with alot of these defensive recruits, which is good considering our lack of schollies going forward. Hopefully these kids grow into their bodies and either solidify themselves at a position or get bigger and move a level down(CB to S, S to LB, LB to DE, DE to DT)

Props to Bill Miller

Let's be sure to give a ton of credit to Bill Miller. The linebacker coach is doing a superb job working Florida and the results over the years should only get better!

Don't know if Minnesota is one of the three, but seems to me I heard somewhere the Gophers were interested in him.

No connection to Moss. Didn't want to start a new thread since this one is already about Gopher recruits. I'm pretty sure he'd be a recruit for this fall.

In case any of you didn't know (or don't have Google), Blinn College happens to be the junior college where Cam Newton started his college career.

It's also where Hasan Lipscomb went when he didn't qualify here.
