Per Cuda: St. Thomas in a league of their own,

Maybe the Gophers do need to take a hard look at Tauer as their next head coach.

This site needs a St Thomas board so we don't have ten threads about them here.

While I usually agree with you, it’s interesting they are the only team. Just like it would be interesting if it was Michigan or Oregon or Utah or Kansas State

It was interesting when I read it in the other UST thread a couple days ago

They put the ball in the basket. There's something to be said for putting the ball in the basket.

Seriously, the successful programs have a way of doing things, and they recruit to that system and teach that system. Switching teams, the Badgers have been successful accepting they're not going to be able to count on getting the five-tool players that other programs get, so they recruit size and skill. And then they play a style and scheme geared toward size and skill. Once you get in the NCAA tourney, the teams that get upset are the ones lacking skill: not being able to make threes, not making free throws.

St. Thomas knows what they're doing and recruits to what they do. They know their limitations. They've been able to replace people who've bolted for higher-level programs and not miss a beat.

They also play in a conference that only produces one team for the tournament because that conference is, overall, not good.

And hence, it is much more difficult to make the NCAA tourney because everything boils down to “3 days in March”. No second, third, fourth, fifth chances, etc., to build a resume. Win the conference tourney or go home.

If UST was really that good, the tourney would be a cake walk. It would be similar to Gonzaga.

Must be thinking of St. John’s stay out of the monastery.. you definitely know your holes…

The Tommy hole. Sounds catholic.

To get this thread to Gopher talk:
How big of a circle would be needed to fit the Gophers in the FT % circle? :ROFLMAO:
