I hate when stats are thrown out like he did when he said "Penn St. has held every opponent below their seasonal scoring average during white out games, except 2013 against Michigan." I would guess that Penn St. holds their opponents below their seasonal scoring average in a vast majority of their home games, white out or not. Don't you think that Penn St. is probably better than the average opponent of other Big 10 teams when you include non-conference opponents?

If it's such a crazy good advantage, why does the graphic near the end show that they are only 6-5 in white out games? I don't doubt that it's a fun atmosphere and fans love it but I question his assertation that it's a lethal weapon.

I think they should worry about cleaning their own house -- like improving on a 7-6 season, beating Illinois at home, turning around their losing trend against Minnesota, or actually winning against Ohio State for once. Because with how Penn State football looks lately, you could get a billion people to show up against Ohio State dressed all in white and they are still going to be filing out sad with 12 minutes to go in the game.

Awfully big britches for a program that is 11-11 the past two seasons, including a 7-6 record in their supposedly magically intimidating stadium.
 

Honestly, because of today's culture, I came here looking at "whiteout dilemma" and expecting to see there are groups at PSU demanding it be canceled due to non-inclusivity....or something. sheesh

Because its bogus stat-mining. In the earlier PSU whiteout thread, the only proof the writer could come up with is that the referees are more intimidated that the opponents. Then argued differently. Like this story.

by the way, "whiteout" - also known as 'liquid paper' - was invented by Betty Nesmith Graham.

She is the mother of Mike Nesmith - best known as a member of the Monkees.
(but he also wrote the song "Different Drum" for Linda Ronstadt)

as a result of his mother's invention, Mike Nesmith inherited a very healthy sum of money. Betty started her own company to market liquid paper. She later sold the company for $48-million.

I got about halfway through.
The guy is hard to listen to.
Talks a lot. Says little.
 

PSU is very provincial, some of that is caused by their location in Happy Valley.
I fail to se how why having all the fans wearing white would intimidate the opposing players.
But let the little dears have their myths.
 




Certainly Kirk should have a little more than usual invested in this one...

Well I once put liquid paper on a bee… and it died.
 

The Minnesota game precedes the Ohio State game for Penn State. Pretty sure the Fox folks considered the 40%+ chance that Penn State will be the team that just lost to Minnesota last week (eew) at home by the time that game rolls around.

The Nits probably imagine some perfect undefeated showdown but it's more likely that they limp into OSU with @Michigan and Minnesota the prior weeks. Toss in Sept roadies @Purdue and @Auburn and Penn State has probably a 50% shot at being 4-3 (or worse) by the time they face OSU.

Seeing how jazzed the Billds were for PSU-UM 2019 at TCF...or frankly the Metrodome on a particular Friday night in 2003 without color coordination...PSU's whiteout easily reads like this on the Spectacle-O-Meter...
