Penn State

Other than money, is PSU really that good of a HC job? They are perennial red-headed step children to OSU, Michigan, Oregon, USC(?) but with fans that still remember 1980s-90s Joe Pa. Like Nebraska except in more fertile recruiting grounds.

And State College is even deeper into BFE than Lincoln is.

We never missed much by firing Mason. That guy quit working years before he was canned. There are far better comparisons.

Maybe so, but the emotional firing of Mason after the bowl game, versus the end of the regular season, didn't leave time for Maturi to find a competent staff. It set the program way back.

At least in terms of timing, PSU is giving themselves long ramp to find a new staff.

I was there when we upset #2 PSU with Danny Nystom hitting the game winner.

My impressions for what it’s worth -

The support they have is phenomenal. People drive from all over to tailgate starting on Thursdays; there were more RVs there than I could possibly count.

They have historical relationships with HS coaches (which Paterno built and forged) there in Ohio, PA and NJ - very fertile recruiting ground.

The students we spoke to said there was plenty to do and thst it was a fun college town.

Their alumni support stadium is very cool and loud.
