Obviously something that comes to mind after beating Indiana is that the Gophers might be primed for a letdown against Penn State after such an emotional, historic win. Since Penn State just scored their own upset, however, it would seem to negate that effect on our own team and put everything back at square one. Let's hope this proves to actually be the case. Go Gophers!

Yeah. That was one hell of a game in which PSU managed to pull one out of their collective backsides, when it looked by every right they were about to get blown right out of their own gym by the far superior team. I've no affinity towards Penn State, but I've always got a soft spot for the massive underdog, and so I found their victory to be extremely rewarding. 0-14 in the B10 this season, losers of 18 conference games in a row dating to last season, and yet, there they did it last night, knocking off the #4 team in the nation, and their win was fully deserved, and not a fluke by any stretch. They simply played harder (and smarter) than UM down the stretch, and most importantly refused to give up, and dogged determination can take you a long, long way.

And their backcourt combo of Marshall and Newbill is impressive and something to take note and be highly aware of, I believe the second most productive backcourt duo in the conference behind that of Michigan's. They've got the capability to shoot, score, and hit the deep three, all of which they proved last night.

So I hope that 'we' (meaning the Minnesota Golden Gophers) do not take light of them, but rather come out with the same level of effort we did against IU. If so, we will roll. If not, well then all bets are off, because when we don't play to full effort, we are eminently beatable.

PSU beating Michigan, was probably the best thing that could have happened. I wouldn't have been shocked had they won their first game vs us otherwise. But now that Tubby and the team know that PSU has it in them, hopefully they'll be prepared for them.

One thing that will help is if the fans show up and fill the barn again and do what they can to help energize the team. If it was a road game for us, I'd be very worried.

"Penn State playing extremely well against the #4 team in the nation was the best thing that could have happened."

I disagree.

I would have rather they got beat by 40.

All I keep thinking though is how this opens the door for WI to get a share of the B1G title. Hopefully MSU takes care of business at home, so then even if IU loses at Michigan, IU & MSU likely share the title.

It's a crazy Big Ten, isn't it? Out of nowhere, Wisconsin can get the #1 seed in the conference tournament simply by winning out (not all that improbable) and having Indiana lose one more game.

I know right?

However, I do get satisfaction knowing that we most likely spoiled there best chance at winning the Big Ten ( Wisconsin that is).

Then the Gophers come out flat, don't take it seriously and lose to PSU at home. At least this way, there's a pretty glaring reminder that they need to take PSU seriously and bring it to avoid the letdown. I still expect the Gophers to win by 10 or so. I think PSU benefited greatly from Senior Night and the fact that they had just seen Michigan 10 days before.

If it takes PSU beating Michigan and riding high into a home game against us to get us to realize we need to take PSU seriously.... We've got major problems.

Again, I would rather PSU got smoked and came in knowing they've never won in the B1G and never will..... I bet you could ask 100 coaches and they would all say they would rather play a team feeling terrible about themselves rather than one that feels like they are world beaters.

Although, now PSU has the "burden" off their back knowing they won't go winless in the BIG and may not be as desperate for their first win against us had they not beaten Michigan.

Awesome news, now hopefully Indiana loses one more game and we take care of business the rest of the way out and Sconny looks at a B10 title!

Nope, no I am not sir! Now go back to your mothers basement!

My mother passed away before she could see my firstborn. Thanks for the reminder, @sshole.

Or are you going to send me another PM calling me a troll and touting your vast BBall experience?

You *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing tool.

No problem sir!

Do not come on here trying to be the gopherhole police with your smart ass remarks to me regarding posting and I wouldn't have to remind you how pathetic your life has become.

Vast bball experience? Yeah I played college ball, what of it? I would guess that I have much more bball knowledge and experience than you *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#r (since we are name calling now)!

Winisota --

did you miss it?! Yeah, Gophers played the #1 team in the nation Tues Night. And guess what? They won!!!

So PSU can think that they are really good and world beaters all they want, but Michigan's been struggling and MANY fans have questioned how they could be #4 still, and Minny might feel like world beaters as well, having beaten the BETTER team, the overwhelmingly agreed upon #1 ranked Indiana Hoosiers, and guess what Winisota, its a HOME game for us. Some people think that playing at home is an advantage?!

And one more thing?! Beating a PSU team that is moving up the ratings and who is playing well, will help us more than beating a crappy creampuff.

Oh, and guys, we're all Gopher fans here, can't we TRY to get along? Can't people disagree without trying to make our disagreements into personal attacks?!

Instead of trying to put people down or instead of trying to put them in their place(supposedly), why not try the opposite? Call it reverse psychology? Pay your opponent compliments and try to sweet talk em into seeing your viewpoint.

Just an idea

Wait... when did I say they weren't going to win? Or even insinuate I thought they wouldn't?

Also, what does the Indiana game have to do with anything.... Of coarse I watched it, and was extremely happy.

You are one confusing dude...

I don't understand how anyone thinks PSU winning is a bad thing. I think it helps us. Here are my reasons we are gonna blow out Penn State.

-They have been fighting really hard for the past few games and coming really close. They would have brought that fire to the barn. They probably will still be fired up, but that need for a win will be gone.
-It's senior night and they will be fired up and we saw what happens when the seniors come out swinging against Indiana
-The barn will be full, rocking and flying high off the last win. The atmosphere should kill most of whatever fire Penn State has.
-We ARE an overall better team.

No problem sir!

This is your response to my mother dying? Stay classy. You're Wisconsin is showing.

...and I wouldn't have to remind you how pathetic your life has become.

What could you possibly know about my life? You are decimal dust in my universe.

Vast bball experience? Yeah I played college ball, what of it?

You're the one who brought it up when you sent me a little midnight note boasting about your basketball career.

...since we are name calling now....

You fired the first shot with "Now go back to your mothers basement!".

So, in short; go pound sand.

What I don't understand is how it could be considered a "good thing" or as some other poster stated "the best thing that could have happened"...

Who would you rather play?

The worst team in the B1G who has never won a game....

or

The worst team in the B1G that just beat the #4 team in the country?

All the ancillary comments you made are true. But take the Penn State beating Michigan alone, thats not a good thing, it's not really bad either, PSU is still PSU warts and all.

1. If something can't go on forever, it won't. Even a bad team in the B1G won't lose indefinitely. I'd rather have Michy absorb the certainty of PS's eventual victory than us.

2. In this league this year it seems like most wins require talent, effort, luck and emotion. I think working up the emotion (spirit if you prefer) requires a fair bit of energy. Which will be difficult to repeat so quickly.

This exactly. It is hard to believe but it is about as hard for a team to go winless as it is for a team to go undefeated. With all things that can go wrong, sometimes all thing go right and it could have been any team, not just Michigan, that faced PSU's inspired frustration. I'm glad it wasn't us. Granted, I think it would be way harder to do what they did on the road.

edit: there is also this misconception in sports that you are now on the level of the team you beat and whoever they beat, you can beat. Penn State is still the same old team and so are we, but I'd take our same old team over their same old team.

Haha typical becky fan... Pathetic.

Still a gopher fan, but yes my Bucky side does show (first post in this thread). But I will be Cheering just as hard for the Gophers in the B10 tournament and in the NCAA's just like I will be for Bucky. Guess you can not have two teams you enjoy to root for?!?!

Yes, saying go back to your mothers basement and calling me an @sshole are the same thing?!?! I did not know your mother died, and quite frankly the way you treat me on here, I could care less! Go away dude!
