One would probably need to be 55+ (me!) to recognize Paul Flatley and his relationship with Gopher football.

I fondly remember learning to love college football via radio broadcasts. Flatley was a good color man next to Ray Christensen. Fall Saturdays during the 70's were great. Gopher Football followed by Bill Diehl doing the roundup while speaking live to the area reporters. Good times!

I googled it and got back some hockey player named Pat Flatley hit a ref with his stick in 1984. Then I looked and found the Paul F. Info. Good stuff!

As a Northwestern alum he seemed to be all Golden Gopher behind the mic. Enjoyed his analysis.

Loved his enthusiasm for Gopher football—two memorable one-word moments: in Ray’s call of the Darrell Thompson’s 98 yard TD run he yells “go” as he breaks into the open field and for Chip Lohmiller’s game-winning field goal against Michigan Ray was momentarily tongue-tied and Paul shouted “good”: geez, that’s almost 40 years ago—where does the Gopher time go?

Saw it live in the Hump. My favorite Gopher FB player. Goosebumps every time I watch and listen to this. DT had some serious wheels for a big RB.

Thank you for posting. Do you remember the play—must have been late in the third quarter or in early in the fourth quarter and the Gophers leading (20-16?)—when Michigan faced a fourth and two at midfield. Schembechler starts screaming at the officials and suddenly an official moves the ball ahead about a yard and a half. Gutey is incredulous (should have called a timeout) but the play goes forward for a Michigan first down with the crowd booing lustily. As I recall it was a bit like the phantom offside call on the onside kickoff in this year’s Michigan game with people saying WTH and no explanation ever forthcoming. It’s an ongoing lesson. Better be 7-14 points better than Michigan or OSU to win by a field goal because any critical call at crunch time will benefit the conference helmet schools—whether it’s 1987 or 2024.

When Flatley did the Vikings games, every time a RB (often Chuck Foremen) got a pass reception he would shout "A and B Circle, A and B circle!!!"

Yeah, that was when the whole crowd was yelling BULLS**T, including my 5'5" 105 lb mother. When DT turned the corner, my Dad grabbed me and started standing up. That place was so loud after he hurdled the guy and turned on the speed.
