Paul Carter compared to Dennis Rodman
This is a huge stretch I know and besides Carter has black hair.
But, I used to enjoy watching Rodman (esp later years) on the court when he would score about 3 or 4 points and get 20+ rebounds. I am not aware of any other comparable player. It also seems I have never seen another player emulate Rodman's playing style either. Every move Rodman would make on the court seemed like it was dedicated to the get next rebound. From the moment the ball was inbounded (offense or defense) it seemed like Rodman was positioning himself from the get-go to get the next rebound. 'Who had the ball, which side of the court was the ball on, where would the next shot likely come from, where would the carom from that shot take the ball, all seemed like questions Rodman would continually go over in his mind in preparation for the next rebound. When he would get the ball in his hands it was like he was uncomfortable having it in his hands because it would detract from his concentration on getting in position for the next rebound wherever it would be so he would immediately get rid of the ball even if it may have looked like he may have had an opening to shoot.
The talk now is that Rodney Williams will start in place of Paul Carter and for now I like that move. Carter is more of a natural 3 than a 4. Interestingly (at least to me) Rodman started his career as a 3 and eventually became a 4. Carter has some real skills in rebounding the basketball. I would like to see him find some old film of Dennis rebounding the basketball and see if he can follow in Rodman's path - on the court only. Maybe, he could be a great 6th man dedicated to rebounding the basketball and like Rodman eventually work his way back into the starting lineup.
Just a thought.
