We definitely need a win against Penn State to get there. A loss to Wisconsin wouldn't be that bad. They could help us with a a BCS bowl berth anyway, same with Michigan State. Just keep winning and we are in.

If they go to a good January 1st bowl game, I am going no matter where it is! I have been to the last 3 insight bowls since I live in Tempe and I just love the bowl game atmosphere. I think if we win 2 of the next 3 we are in!

Yeah, I've been waiting for a New Year's Day bowl game my whole life. I was also waiting for a win against Nebraska my whole like, so maybe, just maybe, this is our year.

I'm kinda hoping we get an invite to the Meineke Car Care Bowl or the MicronPC.com bowl or something.

My annual trip to Sint Maarten has been cancelled this winter, so I'm hoping the fates are just letting me know that we will be going to a big bowl this year!!!

we all need to root for the FSU, Oregon and bama to lose, FSU handled Miami pretty good and play florida which should be easy, Oregon plays Stanford and UCLA in the PAC 12 championship, and Bama still plays #11 Auburn, #17 LSU and either Mizzou or South Carolina in the SEC championship game, all games that could be potential upsets, we need OSU to play in the National championship which will bump every big ten team up a bowl, or if OSU goes undefeated but loses in the big ten championship they would be a very attractive bid for a BCS at large, the big ten has to get 2 BCS games for us to have a good shot at a gator bowl, if that happens 8 wins would probably be enough to get into the gator bowl since a 9 win Northwestern team went last year with OSU being ineligible and an 8 win Minny team is about as appealing or more as a 9 win Northwestern team in terms of qualitiy of team/fanbase size, it hurts that Nebraska won on that hail marry but is good that Iowa lost

As I live in Jacksonville, I would be ecstatic if the Gophers come to our fair city. I've lived here my whole life and never gone to the Gator Bowl, but I'd gobble up some tickets if Minnesota comes to town.

If the B1G has two teams go to BCS bowls, I think Minnesota can hope for better than the Gator Bowl. My concern in that case would be going to the Outback bowl and getting creamed by South Carolina or Auburn.

Penn State was also ineligible. Could/would the Gator Bowl have selected an 8 win Penn State team over a 9 win Northwestern if they were eligible?

For instance, if we end up with 8 wins and a bigger name like Michigan or Nebraska ends up with 7, a bowl could choose them over us, couldn't they?

Oregon plays...UCLA in the PAC 12 championship

Didn't know they already determined that, somebody should tell Arizona State, they're only winning games by 30 plus points.

I don't think there is any way the BT gets two in the BCS. The only way it is even close to a chance is if Michigan St. wins out and beats Ohio St. in the BT championship. Even then, I don't think it happens unless a bunch of teams at the top lose.

It looks like we could have a Northern Illinois or maybe Fresno St. make it to the BCS this year as well.

I think the Gophers go the the Gator only if Wisconsin makes a BCS bowl. I think OSU, WISC, MSU, NEB and MICH all fall above us on the pecking order. This puts us in the Texas Bowl again, at least standings-wise, which is a bit worrysome because there's a chance the Texas Bowl may not want us two years straight and take what I think will be a 6-6 Iowa team over us even at 8-4, which would be miserable. This would drop us to the Dallas Bowl, which is a January 1 bowl, but clearly not as impressive.

Gator Bowl or bust. Rooting for MSU to win out with OSU going to the BCSC.

As I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong, they cant pick a team two games worse. So if Minnesota is 8-4, and Iowa is 6-6, we cant be passed up for Iowa, but if Iowa is 7-5, then we can be passed up for Iowa, because it is only one game difference in the win column.

I really want the Gator Bowl just because it would be the best bowl we've been too in a while. If we get passed up for a worse team I won't be too upset. It'll just mean we have a better chance to win the game and get that 9th or maybe even 10th win!

I'd be good with that.

That rule only applies to the Capital One and Outback bowls. After those two, it's a free-for-all when it comes to bowl bids, except the Big Ten title game loser cannot slip below the #4 game (this year, Tempe).

Beat Penn State and the Gator Bowl is definitely on the radar. Getting two Big Ten teams in the BCS would certainly help.

It helps that only seven B1G teams likely will be bowl eligible; Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Gophers, Nebraska, Ohio State; and Wisconsin. That automatically bumps everyone up a couple slots. Then throw into the mix the possibility of two of OSU/MSU/Wiscy getting BCS bids and that helps even more.

A team has to be within one win to leap frog them in the bowl slots

As Jike noted earlier, that only applies to the Capitol One and Outback Bowls. After that, any bowl can select any team. This link is from two years ago, but I'm almost sure that the same bowl selection procedures are still in place.

"It's important to note that the bowls that make their selections after Outback have very few restrictions in picking eligible Big Ten teams. It's conceivable that a 6-6 team could go to the Insight Bowl or Gator Bowl ahead of an 8-4 team."

And that is why the bowl system is a complete and utter joke.

I don't understand why that makes the bowl system a joke, or at least any more so than anything else. They're designed to make money. The selection order is just that, the order that they are allowed to select the teams. They select teams that they think will travel and to avoid rematches and repeat trips to the same bowls. All of these things have an effect on their bottom line and there's no reason in my mind they shouldn't be able to take these things into consideration, at least if you're going to have bowl games. However, the biggest issue is that there's absolutely no reason that the NCAA shouldn't take over the process like they do for most other sports' post-season competitions, or even as they do at lower levels of football. Why are we allowing bowl organizations to profit off of the games instead of the schools and the NCAA?
