Sad day for the Smith family, assuming Forde's news is correct.

Go Gophers!!

Thoughts and prayers with the family

No matter what age you are, it's hard to lose one of your parents. Thoughts and prayers to Tubby and his family.

My thoughts go out to the Smith family for their loss

In honor of Tubby's Dad, Let's Go Gophers. Tubby's Dad would want it this way.

God bless, Tubby and family. Losing one's parent can never be pleasant regardless of age. Hopefully the U can come up with something classy to show we care.

Will be praying for the Smith family

Somebody once said that no sports related figure can truly be deceased until Sid has claimed him/her as a close personal friend. At which point the individual in question is in no shape to deny the friendship.

All humor aside, I hope the tweet turns out to be wrong, but if not, thoughts and prayers go out to Tubby and Donna.

This is from yesterday's STrib:

Tubby Smith's father dies

Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith's father, Guffrie Smith Sr., died Sunday night. The former Maryland sharecropper raised 17 children with his wife, Parthenia.

Guffrie Smith Sr. was awarded a Purple Heart in World War II as a machine gunner after he was wounded. He was a school bus driver in St. Mary's County (Md.) for nearly five decades.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Sounds like an amazing guy. No wonder Tubby turned out so well.

Hang in there Tubby, thought and prayers with you and your family.

His father appears to be a stand-up guy. He honored his country by serving in WWII and he raised his kids with high values.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith family.
