Pat Fitzgerald is...

Absolutely right! I hope Pat and NU have a long and prosperous relationship. I certainly see it working out that way for them.

"He's one of the most dynamic wide receivers not only in the Midwest, but in the country," Fitzgerald said in his strongest bit of praise for any player.

Looks like some of you may not like Pat now too because of the way he speaks.

I agree. Long term view, good kids, nice class. the key will be coaching them "up" to the next level.

Because he called a two-star guy dynamic? Something people around here would never do.

Ew, two-star! Gross, get him off! He hurts our recruiting ranking!!

Plus he's going to Northwestern, so he's a straight-up nerd. We don't like nerds.

Fitzgerald is a tribute to his university. And he is a college football coach.

Imagine that.

We should all be so lucky.

"It's a very overhyped process," Fitzgerald said. "If you were to re-rank recruiting classes three years down the road, you'd get a truer (sense) of what these young men mean at the collegiate level."

They should do this for real lol.

Pat Fitzgerald is an excellent football coach who is succeeding despite wome inherent disadvantages. Good for him, good for NW. Hopefully in 20 years he and Coach Brew are still having great battles on the field together like we have seen out of the two so far.

Thanks for that list. Interesting as many 2* as 5* players. Do you have these from previous years? I find this interesting.

Given that there are 25 5* players a year, and over 1000 2* players a year, that is a pretty good job of evaluating high end talent.

This subject has been beaten to death though.

That is true but there is also only a handful of five star players (26 this year on rivals) compared to untold numbers of 2 stars. If you look at the percentage of players who are 5 stars that make the AA team as opposed to the percentage of 2 stars I think that it would be obvious where you'd want to take your chances.

Edit: You beat me to it Gold Vision.

Also, I feel like the star system means more at skill positions. The 2 star guys on that list are lineman. You can beef a kid up and turn him into a good lineman, but you can't teach speed and, to an extent, hands.

I almost missed this article before it fell off the 1st page, glad I read it. I love this:
Rather than feeding into the hype of national signing day, he favors an old-school, low-key approach.

"The spectacle that recruiting has become," he said, "I don't think it's very healthy for young men."

Fitzgerald will leave the ego-building to the "recruiting gurus," as he called them.

And this is really impressive
Both Joneses are National Honor Society members. Fitzgerald proudly pointed out that the class's average GPA was 3.5 and that 13 players were team captains.

Which wouldn't be as impressive if he didn't get some solid players, but they're smart, and good appear to be pretty good players.
Based on the players' average star rating of 2.94, it ranks sixth in the Big Ten and 44th nationally.

You've got to hand it to him, with the academic standards NU has, to get decent classes is extremely tough - and he did it. Impressive.
