Parker Jefferson commits!!!!

according to Twitter, Jefferson is a 3-star or a 4-star prospect.

He is also 6'9" or 6'10". It's one thing to see different star ratings - but they can't even agree on his height.

so, this makes - I think - 3 HS recruits now for the 2025 class. I know there will be a lot of scholarships available. just wondering how many will go to HS players and how many scholarships will go to transfers?

and this all assumes that Johnson is still the coach. If Johnson does not return - then all bets are off.

The headline should read: Ben out recruits Musselman and USC for California native (by way of Texas) Parker Jefferson. He had a lot of DI schools offer him. Iowa, USC, Oklahoma St, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech,
Texas A&M, Oral Roberts, UCF, Saint Louis, Cal Poly etc. We got him despite some of those schools offering a lot of NIL money last year to portal recruits.
Does nobody care about freshmen anymore? Just the portal?
Says 169 Natl rank

Looks like an awesome pickup. What are the odds he ever plays here?

Commitments don’t mean anything in the portal/NIL era.

I just check the roster on the first day of practice.
Agree - WingSpan.2?? Do we know what NIL package he was offered? After what appears to be another dismal season on the horizon I could see him decommitting like WingSpan. What ever happened to WingSpan anyway - i know he got hurt down at Louisville but never heard anything after that.

Grand Canyon University. Hasn't played yet.

was deemed medically unable to play at Louisville. Transferred to GCU. Still listed as on their roster but hasn't played a minute this year.

How do we get a recruit to commit and then its so depressing reading all the comments here? lol

Who cares. Another fringe prospect. Beat out real power 5 teams then it's a good one. If you are beating out mid majors and other terrible power 5's then the kid is probably fine, but no one to get excited about.
I won't get excited for a recruit until you are beating out Mich State, Ohio State, UNC, Arizona, etc.

Not to say this kid won't be good, but be honest, he is coming here because he knows he will play and likely hopes he can move on in a season if he does well. Most likely sitting everywhere else.

IMHO, it's all tied to the Head Coach. there are fans who really don't like Ben Johnson, and so any recruit that Johnson signs must be bad, because Johnson is bad (in their eyes).

from my point of view, when you have a program like MN that has had a lack of historic success, and several recent poor seasons, along with a perceived lack of NIL, it's not realistic to expect that MN is going to be landing top recruits or winning recruiting battles against top-20 programs.

depending on which service you read, the Gophers currently have two 4-star players commited for '25. (Jefferson and Ross).

from the Strib - a little more about Jefferson:

The 230-pound Jefferson is ranked as a four-star prospect by ESPN and three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals. He also had offers from Iowa, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma State and SMU.
(previous recruits) Shinholster and Ross already have the Gophers ranked sixth in the Big Ten and 43rd nationally by Rivals and 10th in the Big Ten and 58th nationally by 247Sports. The Gophers still could have six scholarships available to add to the class in the spring.

We could become a Good feeder club!

I was a freshman in 1984. I remember walking into Williams arena and sat and watched a couple practices (not sure if I was supposed to be in there). I ended up working in the concession stands for both hockey and basketball games for 5 years.
That team could have been really good. Then the Madison WI incident happened which basically ended Jim Dutcher’s career.

I pulled these photos from eBay, a guy was selling the old media guide. I made an impulsive purchase and just bought it for $20.
