I haven't listened to the podcast yet (I will this evening).

I have been thinking about the whole concept of sports fans as opposed to sports analysts/sports critics. Some of us like to simply root for the team, and not try too hard to analyze, critique and/or second guess. The folks who enjoy analyzing, criticizing and second guessing are entitled to follow their own bliss, but sometimes it can be nice to just be a homer and cheer for your team.
 

I have no problem with those Observers who just want to be a homer and cheer for you team. But those who then jump on to social media and complain about; NIL, transfer portal, recruiting, play calling, coaches moves, player personal, etc... Those are the "Obervers" who I take issue with.
 


JG isn’t a great mind on almost anything. He has the wingman schtick down with DB on the FAN but he’s not great on Gophers stuff. Burns is the go to for that I’d like to see him have a larger role in Gophers football coverage all around.

I thoroughly enjoy JG. He has good relationships with the coaches and represents the U well

Agree 100%.

I'd like to see more Gaard-led Gopher football content on KFAN. I'd love it if he and Mike Grimm had a mini-show dedicated to covering Gopher sports. I know they do the show with Fleck, which I enjoy, but let's have some more, please.
 





I'm more of an observer, I suppose. Much like GusTalon, I enjoy hanging around with GH'ers.

I try to get to a couple games and occasionally throw out an comment, but Gopher FB is not what I center my life on or around.

I stood with the Gophers whether it was Mason, Brewster, Horton, Kill, or Claeys as the HC. I appreciate what PJ has built so far.

we have so little gopher content, I think pair and spare is pretty good podcast would be good to support what is out there
 


Pair and a Spare is a fun podcast. I like all three guys. It is a nice balance between objectiveness with a dash of homerism. I have not had the commute time this season to give it its due diligence though. Did listen to the current episode. Good stuff.

Yep that is his job, to promote the coaches, the game and support what they say without necessarily questioning it.

What did they define fan vs observer as?

JG is getting paid . He is still correct. The tc media market is the remains of The legendary battle of the Siddites and DarkStarr fan boys. We all know how it turned out.

Start by fixing the pre and postgame shows. They are paper thin and more commercial than content.

Well, the rant wasn't necessarily about observers. It was about NIL and people here always assuming immediately that someone like Drake Lindsey will leave for more money after the season. He says that doesn't happen anywhere else. He said anywhere he goes -- Cub, hockey practice, etc. -- that's the small talk people make with him. "Will Lindsey/Taylor/Perich leave?"

He chided the people who do that (the observers), saying they're trying to sound smart ("great, you know about NIL") but 1) thinking Minnesota can't compete and 2) really having nothing else to say about the Gophers.
 

I wish there was Gopher media that didn't exist in the shadows of the broader MN sports scene/KFAN. I want to like Pair and Spare, but so much airtime gets spent on recycled KFAN bits or referencing other MN sports. I just want stand-alone Gopher coverage from smart, informed people. Gopher Gridiron is good, but still gets sucked into that pattern. Anyone I'm missing out on?

If Pair and a Spare and Gopher Gridiron are not focused enough on Gopher football for you, I really think you'll have a hard time finding something that does more of that. From my perspective, Gopher Football is pretty much all they talk about on Gopher Gridiron and Pair and a Spare.
