Oh well! Excited about next year and playing in a tournament that the rest of the nation actually watches.
Maybe Rodney won't like ending the season like that and come back? We'll be alright next year. This was really invaluable experience. The only thing I can think of positive? Well maybe the team will hate feeling like this tonight and come back working harder over the summer to have a more successful season next time.

If the players felt the game is meaningless, we need to think if they are the players we want on this team.Feeling like what tonight? Getting blown out in a meaningless game should not be why they should come back working harder over the summer. Their motoivation to work hard over the summer is that they don't want to play in the post season NIT again next year.

Meaningless?
Both are equally important to me.Yes meaningless. What was more important overalll that they team was able to get 5 more games, 5 more games away from home with 3 of them being actual road games or winning the NIT?
If you honestly think the players thought that game was meaningless and winning the NIT is meaningless, maybe you don't understand how players think.Yes meaningless. What was more important for the overall progress of the team? Getting 5 more games, 3 of which were road games or winning the NIT?

You clearly don't understand how this works. Sure, they couldn't acheive their goal of the NCAA tourney, but they still had games they could win and for a player that should never be meaningless. You are right. That should be the team goal for next year. Getting back to the NIT Championship game and winning!

Let's say your goal is to make a million dollars a year, but something happens where that becomes impossible. Do you just give up?

why was last nights game "meaningless?" how can a "fan" determine that? im so sick of people trashing the NIT as if we were playing in a womans tourney. we are better than about 20 teams that made the ncaa tourney, same goes for stanford, washington, northwestern, etc. if the ncaa actually gave a damn about the top 68 teams being involved there would no longer be a norfolk state, south dakota state, lehigh, and so on. anyone that thinks otherwise doesnt follow college basketball closely. this was a great experience especially for how the season went and it was valuable for the program. some of you kfan listeners need to come up with your own opinions rather than repeating burrito and mr nfl pa.

I'd hoped that this thread would be filled with positive comments. Here's mine. THANKS GOPHERS for all you hard work and dedication. I am already looking forward to next year! Stanford's game was "on" and I felt sad for your pain. Finally, too many miles and injuries caught up with you. I hope you had fun in New York. Wish you the best!

Thanks, Gophers, for missing as much class time as you did to play in this tournament, and for deciding that you were going to work hard and play hard and elevate your games in the process - in a tourney that some think is completely meaningless. Regardless of the last game, it added some sweetness to the season.
In addition to individuals improving their individual games, the coaches and players need to reflect on consistency. Yes, the whole league was up and down this year, but the Gophs were as inconsistent as anyone, and that continued through to the end - playing some of their best ball of the year in the NIT only to play one of their worst games in the final. I was listening to Trent Tucker on KFAN on the way home yesterday, and he thought the key to the Gopher's postseason successes was toughness. Very true. At the same time, their flop in the final game was due to a sudden lack of toughness - the mental toughness to play through adversity. The players definitely got frustrated and discouraged out there. That mental hump is the key thing for the team as a whole to try and overcome next year.

Right on. Also listened to Trucker although it was damn near unbearable with Insufferable Packer guy repeating himself over and over. "Frustrated and discouraged" is an excellent description of them the last 3/4 of that game.
