P.J. Fleck : “The QB competition is going to be fierce. It’s going to be a lot of fun. It has already started.” (Video)

Assuming there ever was a legitimate competition, it seems like Lindsey has the early lead, right?

There isn’t any competition if PJ has shown one thing that he’s consistent about it’s choosing his QB horse early and then riding him out. It’s Lindsey, which I think is nice but in today’s world you gotta pretend like there’s competition so that we don’t lose the other guys as QB depth is critical.

You're the one saying there isn't a competition. And he's the coach. This sounds just like all the conversations about how PJ chooses his favorites and not who he thinks gives him his best chance to win.

I was the impression Lindsey was the heir apparent and he had all the tools for a long run at qb for the Gophers. Maybe I read too much into the news we now have a fierce competition for the job, but I sort of assume either Lindsey hasn’t continued to develop or isn’t as good as advertised.

There is no competition.
Lindsey is the starter 100 percent barring injury.

There was never a time where PJ talked about heir apparent or having a shoo in, he has always been open that there will be a competition. Means absolutely nothing. Lindsay has the inside track without a doubt.

Those Seth Green days and touchdowns were a thing of beauty. Everyone knew it was coming, but rarely did they stop it. Seth didn't need no Tush-Push (Brotherly-Shove) - he simply blew through the line with brute strength and his He Man powers.
FYI it appears Seth Green is on the Arlington Renegades UFL roster as a tight end.

So was Vic Viramontes! Hope that is where the comparison ends. So many intangibles to being successful at quarterback.
Pyron put up a mediocre statline against the Irish so we know he's at least no worse than Kaliakmanis?

I think Morgan/Annexstad was a real competition.

Go Gophers!!
Fierce is fine, what we want is a clear winner. A player you know can pass the ball and lead the team. The one reel I saw demonstrated a wobbly pass but it connected deep. There was zero pressure on the QB. What happens when there is pressure? Even more wobbly?

My understanding is it was always Lindsey’s job to lose, and hear he’s been impressive in practice so far. They weren’t going to just hand the starting job to a freshman, and apparently he’s earning it.

It should also be noted, the video in which PJ is talking to begin this thread is now two months old. It isn't anything new or even since spring ball started.
