Got to tune in tonight, this is what I took away:
• We did things much better, still disappointed in the pre-snap penalties. Anytime you score that many points, it's always good.
• On Mitch - he was on top of his checks. They did some things that were similar to the 1st game, but we had film now. Moved the ball around a locked, didn't get locked in on one receiver.
• O-Line and Mitch- he's done a good job of changing the protection, our RB are really getting protected well. We're catching the ball well, we don't have a lot of drops. I think that all has a lot to do with Coach Johnson, he does a lot of catching drills, they seem elementary, but they work.
• Whatever what you do in practice, you can't bring in officials, and nothing makes up for the intensity of game day.
• We have to play better on 3rd down and get off the field. The biggest thing, during the off week, getting everyone healthy. We'll practice only 2 days. 80% of this is recruiting, except for me, we'll get on the road on Monday. The coordinators need to be back for the 2 practices. You've got to have good players to win. This is our one week we can get out to some schools.
• On Jerry Kill being back - It was great to have him on the sidelines, we were the best of friends. The hardest thing for me was that I hadn't bought one or read one yet, that will have to wait until after the season. It will be very entertaining going back and remembering the stories.
• On Tyler Johnson - We're just seeing beginning of someone who's going to be special.
• On recruiting - we've had a few recruits visit during games, most of it is that we can call them once a week, we'll have a position coach, coordinator, and I'll call them every 3rd week. We can text them now. I like to find out how they played each week and send them little notes. You have to recruit everyday, it makes it hard with the games. I'd like for them to make between 6-10 recruiting calls each night on their own, and say "hey" to the recruits. We have a system that we think works pretty well.
• Good time or bad time for a bye week? Accept it for whatever it is, and approach it that way. For us, it's probably not a bad time now with some of the injuries. It gives us a chance to get some good fundamental time in with them, and work on the kicking game. We'll try to make some final decisions for who's going to redshirt or not, it's got to be a plan that's adjustable.
• On Colorado State - No altitude to deal with. They're younger, and have struggled a bit this year. They're trying to break in some new people, but they always play well. They're trying to get into the Big 12, so we'll have to play well, and injuries again, Brandon Lingen ended up breaking his collarbone. I hope I don't end up getting 5000 emails, it had nothing to do with his shoulder. We have to deal with that, but he'll be back. Injuries are part of the game.
