Over/Under on the announcement?

Have to imagine the U will wait for New Mexico to make a decision and announcement. Our top targets are all still coaching. Time to be cool.
current players and recruits need to know....It has dragged out long enough

It’s been three days... all of the targets are likely coaching. No rush needed. Letting Pitino interview elsewhere is a respectful move. That stuff matters to other coaches in the coaching fraternity. Coyle will handle this right.

JHFC get it done already.

Coyle and the New Mexico AD are playing chicken.
Who cares? In the unlikely event someone else is stupid enough to hire a complete failure like Pitino, more power to em.

Meanwhile, we don't have a coach.

If waiting 24 hours saves $1-1.25 million on the buyout, it's worth it. It's the difference between getting out of it completely and only offsetting whatever NM pays him, which will be far less than $1.75 million.

Meanwhile in Indiana...

Just throwing money at problems in a COVID year.

If we are really waiting for New Mexico to offer Pitino a soft landing spot, we are a totally chicken shit operation.

Running on a shoe string budget hoping for someone else to pay for our mistakes.

It has become toddlers playing with the big boys type stuff......I'm glad we didnt hurt Pitino's feelings before we found him another job🙄

I think you guys are over-reacting. We're not hiring anyone before next Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. Does it really matter if we fire him today or tomorrow? Give it 24-48 hours.

They could have fired him last week and it would been the same as this week....Trying to save a little money and helping him find a soft landing spot is pathetic considering what Indiana just did.

There's no getting out of a $10 million buyout. Not really apples to apples. If you fired someone today and cost $1.75 million that you could have saved by waiting 24 hours, would you be upset?

We don't have the boosters that Indiana basketball does. There's no rush anyways, since our likely top candidates are in the tourney.

There is no guarantee he gets hired anywhere....Pitino is a big boy he can take care of himself....Waiting longer makes it look worse

There is nothing wrong about putting out an official statement that the U has moved on and still waiting next week to hire your guy.....Hoping for Pitino to find a job so you can save a little money is little league stuff.

$1.75 million isn't peanuts when athletic departments all over are struggling due to the pandemic. Pitino has a pretty good chance at the New Mexico job since the AD there played under Billy Donovan. If he doesn't get the job Coyle will probably get rid of him anyways, so why not wait a couple days and possibly save $1.75 million? It will be looked at as a shrewd move if it happens.

Indiana must not be struggling

Allowing Pitino to transition to a new position has ZERO downside and plenty of upside to the athletic deptartment, both financially and in public/coaching circle opinions.

My gut says Coyle had his new guy lined up a month ago.

What did Indiana just do? Wait four days to fire its coach? Pathetic in your eyes, I'm sure. Looks like Minnesota waited four days, maybe five. What is the big difference?

Jesus man, calm down. Your continued hatred for Pitino is not healthy.

Indiana already announced Miller....This is a joke

Remarkable difference in programs, huh!

After 4 years, Indiana says "We've seen enough! Take your $10 million and get out of here."

After 8 years, Minnesota is still trying to finesse a departure with a buyout that is less than 1/5th of that.
