Outstanding Hockey

Not sure where to out this, or if it even is worth its own thread. I'm ignoring the Gophers right now. Mostly because it's tough to watch them. But partly because it's high school hockey sections right now. And the tourney comes close behind. Just had to mention that I was in Amsoil last night for the Cloquet-Hibbing game. Wow! What a game. Hibbing pulled it out in OT on a beautiful goal with about 10 seconds left in the first OT. Game was a joy to watch. The atmosphere was great too. Loved both of those teams. I think we should get that Cloquet coach to join the Gopher staff. Even though they lost, I loved the way they played. Tonight I'll be there for the Rapids vs Rock Ridge game too. Hoping for the same type of thing. Love the Iron Range teams and I'll be rooting hard for Hibbing (and hopefully RR) in the tourney next week! Go Wolverines.

A couple really good players from those section games will surely head to UMD and help them in the next few years.

A couple really good players from those section games will surely head to UMD and help them in the next few years.

Maybe a few of them will even end up wearing the 'M.' Long ways to go but I'd love to see some more northern boys on the roster.

more aptly, we just need to recruit the range more heavily. those guys will end up at Duluth, Bemidji, SCSU frequently, but you need to present enough up there to get the best ones when you want them. Different, generally grittier brand of hockey up there which you need. Huglen and McLaughlin are the only guys under Bob to come down here and play, and obviously we see a pretty good number on some very good currently competing teams.

Agreed 100%. Swanson bros are both solid but have been middle of the road producers in elite league competitions and such. But when you can get guys like that to go play Jr for 2-3 years and then come in, you get guys with pretty high floors from the get go without the warts. Some very well coached hockey up on the range
