I just realized both the Oregon-Standford and Baylor-Oklahoma games are tonight. I wonder why they have two marquee games at the same time on a Thursday.

Sucks for Fox Sports 1 as this has to be their biggest game so far for their network and they are going up against Oregon-Standford.

Noticed this yesterday. I found it odd as well. Should be a great game though. I've always liked watching the ducks for some reason.

Not that this is that big of a statement on a Gopher board, but as a Viking fan, my viewing will be 60% Ducks vs. Tree, 20% Vikings, 20% Baylor v. covered wagon.

I only remembered the Vikings played tonight about an hour ago. And I have always been a big Vikings fan.

At least the Baylor-OK game starts an hour and a half earlier than the Oregon-Standford game. The endings of the games (assuming they will be close) shouldn't conflict with each other.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat as you. Don't blame ya.

Has there ever been a better set of College Games on a Thursday night. Baylor and OU looks great so far with OU holding steady on defense although Baylor is about to score. I'm cheering for OU as I've always liked them. Then following that up with Stanford and Oregon. Can't beat it. Hoping the Cardinals can shut down Oregon. I don't like that offense. Indiana, Baylor and Oregon all run it...

Baylor blowout. Bears firmly in the national title conversation after the first half

I had not watched Baylor much but I am quite impressed by their entire team. Should be in Nat'l title talk from little I saw.

Stanford up 14-0 on Oregon. I imagine there are quite a few Stanford fans tonight in Columbus, Ohio.

Go Gophers!!

Wasn't a blowout until the last 2 minutes of the half in which Baylor scored 2 tds. Oklahoma's defense has played stellar in the game, their offense has been lacking.

Baylor sure does have a tough stretch to end the season. They still have Oklahoma St., TT, and Texas. I think at Oklahoma St. will be a tough one. If they do win on out, I wonder if they could slip by Ohio St.?

Stanford is really taking it to Oregon.

I still think Stanford is the best team. Although Florida St. looks unstoppable as well. I'd rather a non-championship game of Oregon and Baylor. It would be something like 114-110.

I think it is very well possible. I think there is very little chance Oregon plays in the Rose Bowl. If they go undefeated, they'll play in the BCS championship. If they lose this game to Stanford, I don't think Stanford loses there last three games (regular season).

trees up 17-0 on Oregon, OSU's title hopes are looking a lot better, now they just need Bama to lose to either #17 LSU, #11 Auburn or in hte SEC championship game aginst either #14 south carolina or #9 Mizzou, bet they slip up somewhere in there, then OSU playing in the title game moves every big 10 team up a bowl game and increases our chances of a gator bowl berth

I think the B1G gets 2 in the BCS regardless (or irregardless if you're a TV color commentator). Thus whether they're in the Rose or in the NC it shouldn't have much of an impact to me.

Why the heck is the Fox broadcast camera a mile from the field? They've got a long way to go before they catch ESPN in professional product.

Well if OSU is in the NC game, that opens the Rose Bowl up for the Gophers!

Many times it's simply the set up of the stadium. If you watch any Ohio State game it feels like the camera is positioned on a blimp 15,000 feet from the field. It really slows the game down because of the amount of space it shows on camera.

It won't go to the loser of the B1G Championship Game. So the Gophers would need to win out and still not make the CG for that to work out which isn't happening. Basically it's Becky wins out and goes to the BCS without playing in the CG. I know it sucks but there is TONS of precedent on this (Florida last year over Georgia, Michigan over Michigan State two years ago, etc.).

How does a team hope to win the national title without a field goal kicker? It's frickin embarassing.

I have a hard time seeing how they get 2 in. If OSU is 13-0 and misses the BCS title game, they go Rose Bowl. I don't know that a 2 loss MSU or even 2 loss Wisconsin finishing out on a hot streak (assuming they can beat us :) ) move the needle enough for an at-large bowl to take them. Wisco travels well but doesn't pulls the eyes to TV sets. If OSU misses NC game, it's a 1 BT BCS year.

If we somehow win the last 3 (which we all know is unlikely), and lose to OSU and they go to the NC, we would be a VERY popular pick to go to Pasadena, since they've had Wisky 3 times in a row (no wins) and we'd be such a national story with winning 6 games in a row and beating both Wisconsin and Michigan St. Again, really unlikely, but the Rose Bowl got to choose, we'd be quite a story to sell.

You need to be in the top 14 to be an at large selection. With three losses, and one coming the last weekend of the regular season, and not being ranked currently, the UofM is NOT going to be in the top 14. You need to know the rules if you're going to argue with me.

You misunderstood. I wasn't arguing. I was dreaming.

Also, sorry to keep poo-pooing on our program but the Rose Bowl isn't interested in stories. They're interested in selling tickets and national appeal of a game. We don't travel well (according to ESPN a bowl rep said we're the poorest traveling team in the conference) and we definitely don't move the needle from a broadcast perspective at this point in time. Maybe someday, but not now. Again, it's moot because of the ranking but even if that wasn't a problem Becky moves the needle more than we do right now even with 3 previous Rose Bowls.

PS: I hate having to argue in favor of Wisconsin but I'm just stating some facts and some fairly logical opinions.

How great would it be to see Oregon go down, and dare I say LSU beats Alabama in T town.

Bama is due for a letdown. And for once, a 1 loss Bama team won't be the one going to the National Championship game. Their coach is bailing on them and their reign is over.

If we're assuming WI wins out, I can compare a 2 loss MSU team to them. One coming against marginally-ranked Notre Dame on the road, one against a 25 game win-streak OSU in the title game. I can't imagine voters dropping MSU far for that loss, and coming in to that game they're likely close to being a top 10 team (they're 17 right now compared to WI 24). My money would be on MSU over WI in that situation to be in the top 14 and picked by the Rose Bowl.

Back to the dream scenario. A Gopher team that has 6 consecutive wins, including Nebraska, PSU, Wisconsin, and MSU, could very well be ranked 10-14th coming in to a BT title game. It would be unfortunate that a team with losses to Michigan, Iowa, and OSU would drop out of the top 14, but I wouldn't doubt it. We may actually fare better in a scenario that sees us win out but MSU's only loss comes against us, keeping us from dropping in the BCS rankings.

I don't buy that we don't travel well. We haven't been invited to a good bowl game to test that theory, so it's bogus. Nashville in 02, 04, and 05, El Paso in 99 and 03, and Tempe in 06, 08, and 09 are not exactly great destinations or prestigious bowls. Add in that our teams typically finished their seasons on a disappointing downswing and it's not surprising attendance was sub-par, but throw an Outback, Capital One, or Gator Bowl our way and people will go.

It amazes me how dumb announcers can be sometimes. They just called a illegal hands to the face on Oregon, the announcers couldn't believe it was called. Of course, they weren't even looking at the right player. For some reason, they assumed the penalty occurred on the ball carrier.
