Other B1G Team Notes 2022-23

A look at the Badger's season:

The head coach was quick to heap praise on her floor general. “Katie is a really special kid. She has got the heart of a lion and doesn’t have any quit in her.” While this past season was Nelson’s last one playing, Moseley mentioned that Nelson will be joining her staff as a graduate assistant this coming year.

Nelson is the only player from this year’s team that exhausted her eligibility (note: I asked Moseley about the status of Sydney Hilliard, who took a leave of absence from the team at the beginning of February, and of Lovisa Djurstrom and Alex Luehring, who only played four and seven games respectively last year before disappearing from the team’s roster, and she didn’t have a comment) and since she’ll still be on the sidelines, there will be some nice continuity in year two. Moseley mentioned that she thought Julia Pospisilova “really understood by the end” what Moseley wanted on the court and should be a leader on next year’s team.

Two other players that Moseley mentioned when asked about leadership were Brooke Schramek and redshirt freshman Maty Wilke. It was interesting that she brought up Wilke, who missed her entire freshman season with an injury, but Moseley noted that Wilke had spent the entire year, on the bench, right next to the coaches during games. Moseley called her a “cerebral kid.

Seems like there won't be any movement by the Gophers for her based on her stats. Kind of surprised she would risk the portal.

She played a year at Iowa Western Community College before Fahey brought her to Champaign this season. More interesting is that whomever takes the Illini job will apparently have to bring her own players.

This was actually her 2nd season at Illi

she very well may catch on at a low D1 school but track record makes it seem a bit risky to leave a scholarship behind. New coach will have to pull a Ben Johnson. I suppose some coaches might like to remake the roster so they can more easily instill their preferred culture.

Good news for the new coach is there's literally nowhere to go but up. The Fahey experiment remains a real head-scratcher.

Iowa City arrivals:

The Hawkeyes are losing senior Tomi Taiwo, one of their best defensive players. Taiwo had 23 steals coming off the bench in the 2021-22 season.

“She gives us a good defensive spark,” Bluder said March 18. “I feel like she just has added so much to our bench play.”

With Taiwo’s departure, Iowa does have three four-star recruits joining the program for the 2022-23 season. Hannah Stuelke and Taylor McCabe were the Iowa and Nebraska Gatorade Players of the Year, respectively.

Jada Gyamfi will be one of the tallest Hawkeyes on the roster at 6-foot-2. She averaged 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds in her junior season at Johnston in 2020-21.

Iowa City arrivals:
Jensen needs to understand it takes more then Clark, she totally dismissed Lauren Jensen and you see what happened ... Jensen should of easily been the 2 guard for Iowa.

Perhaps we can put together another group of tall grad xfers for next year 😳🤔

Nebraska women's basketball player Ruby Porter is leaving the team and plans to return home to Australia, she announced on social media on Wednesday.
The sophomore guard appeared in 29 games this season, including two starts, and scored 58 points.

Another player from the team, Mi’Cole Cayton plans to continue her college basketball career at another program.

The guard from California has entered her name in the NCAA transfer portal, which allows other schools to recruit her.

She’ll also need to get an NCAA waiver to play because it would be her seventh season in a college program. She’s battled numerous knee injuries but said in a social media post she’s 100% healthy and wants to play college basketball and earn a doctorate degree. She played in 26 games this season, and played 16 minutes in the final game of the season in the NCAA Tournament.

Any rumors on any potential transfer in players from the portals. Gophers need to re-make the front court from just about scratch it seems.

Its hard to find much info on transfer recruiting but they have been following some on social media. A few that coaches have followed, Caitlyn Harper 6'1 post player (WAC player of the year) from Cal Baptist but originally from Hartland Wisconsin, Kierra Fletcher from Gtech, KK deans from West Virginia. No clue if theres any traction with any of them but those are some of the names i recognized.

I bet Iowa coaching staff is regretting sitting Lauren Jensen last year. Creighton is hanging with Iowa State. possible move on to the elite eight.

And just like that they continue their strong shooting performance for the W.
