OT: Very funny Nick Swardson (actor) tweet re: another's perception of MN & WI

Yikes. If anyone even thought I was from Wisconsin I would be disgusted. It is pretty simple. Minnesota is white collar and Wisconsin is white trash.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI. California is the #1 dairy state.

You obviously haven't heard the of the Lake Superior Basin and how it coincides with Canadian shelf lakes. If you want
too see the difference come on up too Ely and I'll show you the difference of the lakes in Wisconsin. And yes, even Hayward.

I'm originally from Iowa (shudder) and spent most of my formative years in Wisconsin (double shudder). I disappointed my family by not attending Iowa and my friends for not attending Wisconsin. Most things about both of those states are pretty unbearable. I'll take Minnesota all day long.

Grew up and went to HS in Wisconsin. But birthed and currently reside in the TC.

Trying to argue who's got better breweries is like who's got the hotter sister. You have have that claim to fame, Wisconsin. Your state is horrible.

I'm a 'Sconnie by birth/choice but support Gopher athletics due to education.

I lived in and love the Twin Cities, travel often to Brainerd and Duluth.

Your highways, alleged # of lakes being so important, and the rest of the state you can have. I'll take beer, cheese, cows and more beer any day/night of the week. Everything you've got, we've got 3 or 4 better!

Gauntlet thrown. Hopefully my boys are here to back me!
You can keep your fat whores on your side of the St.Croix as well and lets be real, half your lakes would be considered ponds in Minnesota

Which HS, Formo?

Same token for Pabsts then.... Which is similar scale to Schell (my perception I dont know that as a fact). The beer conversation between Minnesota and Wisconsin is really a silly one. It's not close, we consumer more, we tax it less, we have almost double the total number of breweries, we have arguably better brands, it's associated much more with our state.... We are a better beer state. ;)

Soooo we've got

Shoreline - Minnesota
Cheese - Wisconsin
Beer - Wisconsin

2-1

End of argument.

Cheese and beer? Should we then argue we have better wheat and sugar beets? How about something that matters. Like Quality of Life? Economy? An actual city life? Education? Health? Healthcare?

And if you are gonna brag about the Dells, then I guess I will brag about the Mall of America which is much more popular, although most Minnesotans dont actual go there.

I think you're missing the point, however, quality of life, economy and city life? Who cares about that..... ;)

And you're refining my point. Outside of the Twin Cties where exactly is that better than anywhere in Wisconsin? And one could argue that Milwaukee is not to distant in those terms to the Twin Cities. Milwaukee is a fantastic city, much less heralded than other larger cities, but it's got everything you would need and great culture around it. So you win with MSP area to Milwaukee area, I'll take Madison and Green Bay over Duluth and Rochester any day of the week.

As far as the Dells, I didn't brag about them.... 2nd off, why would you compare the Dells to the Mall of America? Are they remotely the same type of attraction? One is a mall with a water park in it, the other is a series of lakes and resorts littered with golf courses, amusement parks and boutique shopping. One is seasonal the other is indoors....

Back on topic.

We've got better barns than you guys as well.

Given how most people from wisconsin are obsessed with animals I can see why you would make that statement.

Spoken like a true Minnesotan... Lakes in norther USA are truly divine. You are quite naive to think that the lakes in Northern Minnesota are vastly superior to those in Wisconsin, they were formed by the same glaciers years ago. For every fantastic lake Minnesota has, Wisconsin has one very similar. There is a substantial area of Northern Wisconsin that is littered with pristine lakes that would match whatever it is you are determining as critiera for a "good lake". What count's and the number is irrelevant, lakes are great doesn't matter what side of the river you are on. .
To clarify the lake thing, Minnesota requires a surface area of 10 acres or more and an official name, Wisconsin has neither criteria resulting in their fraudulent listing of over 15,000 "lakes". If they were to use Minnesota's criteria, Wisconsin would have less than 6,000 lakes. So no, not every one of Minnesota's lakes has a counterpart in Wisconsin that is "very similar"

Minnesota is consistently ranked in the top 10 of quality of life/happiness/livability rankings regardless of source and usually rank significantly higher than the neighboring states. There's a reason so many Sconnies and Iowans live here, simply because it's better than home.

Milwaukee is a landfill of a city outside of isolated areas by the lake. I'll give you Madison but only slightly. Madtown has a hip cool atmosphere kind of a scaled down version of Austin, TX. Rochester is more cosmopolitan despite being less than half Madison's size. And besides Lambeau Field, Green Bay is about as drab and nondescript as it gets whereas Duluth is scenic and breathtaking.

I'd have to go 2 out of 3 Minnesota in that comparo.

Better barns? Really? That's your argument?

He meant Bars, not Barns. LOL!

I have lived in both states and in every corner of Wisconsin. With the exception of maybe Hudson; I'd say the quality of life in the Twin Cities is way better. My family and I like it here a lot. Winasota; I'd quit with the comparison at this point.

Hahaha... You can't be serious. Even a rational person defending WI wouldn't make that call.

The only things WI can claim over MN is success of its sports teams and Culvers, and those little family farms dotting the hills east of La Crosse are cute. Otherwise, everything favors MN.

Rochester has the #1 hospital in the country, which probably makes it one of the tops in the world. A very nice, clean city with a ton of really good paying jobs. And it is about to get $6 billion in private investment. So, I would say there are some good things outside of the Twin Cities. That is just one example.

And Door County? I remember going there when I was 17. Not impressed at all. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it, but I would argue Southeast Minnesota is more beautiful.

And I compared the Dells to the MOA because they are both tourist traps. And they are both the most tourist thing in each state.

Soooooo in recap

Shoreline - Minnesota (this includes the lake discussion)
Cheese - Wisconsin
Beer - Wisconsin
Barns - Wisconsin
Bars - Wisconsin
Economy/Quality of Life/City Life - Minnesota in MSP Metro area, Wisconsin everywhere else so that's a tossup
MOA vs Dells - Who cares?
Door County - Vs Mississippi - Wisconsin
Fat whores - Wisconsin
Ranking in miscellaneous and trivial editorials written by Minnesotans - Minnesota.
Culvers - Wisconsin
Hospital and government funding - Minnesota
Northfield - Minnesota
Building a metropolis on a landfill - Wisconsin

By my count that is 8-5

I think that's pretty fair.

Anyone else wanna chime in?

Beer - Wisconsin (Who cares?
Barns - Wisconsin (REALLY WHO CARES)
Bars - Wisconsin (Maybe in quantity, maybe not in quality.)
Economy/Quality of Life/City Life - Minnesota in MSP Metro area, Wisconsin everywhere else so that's a tossup (completely disagree, if anything the outstate is equal in each state)
MOA vs Dells - Who cares? Agree.
Door County - Vs Mississippi - Wisconsin Door county is more comparable to the North Shore, not the Mississippi. Both are yuppie traps
Fat whores - Wisconsin Not a feather in the cap
Ranking in miscellaneous and trivial editorials written by Minnesotans - Minnesota. These are national rankings done by national publications, not local
Culvers - Wisconsin
Hospital and government funding - Minnesota
Northfield - Minnesota
Building a metropolis on a landfill - Wisconsin

The Game, Set, Match for the Minnesota vs. Wisconsin: just Google: "Wisconsin Death Trip". That's messed up.

I'll proudly call myself a Minnesotan.

i'm not ready to concede the beer thing to wisconsin - this isn't 1986. new glarus is arguably the best microbrewery in the country but after that you have....central waters? tyranena? lakefront? decent but not great.

with surly's new brewery, the development of the brew scene throughout mpls (townhall tap/lanes, northgate, harriet, fulton, steel toe) and especially nordeast (indeed, dangerous man, 612), some awesome new brews being crafted by summit (saga and the unchained series) and schell's (star of the north/frambois du nord), and the addition of bent paddle with fitgers up north, minnesota is one of the strongest growth markets in craft brewing.

if you're relocating simply for beer, you relocate to the twin cities and have access to the myriad of fresh ipa's coming out of our market and then make a monthly trip to hudson to get your new glarus.

I live out of state and that's exactly how I feel every time someone says "Oh you're from Wisconsin, right?"

For me they always think I'm from Michigan, somehow not as bad as Wisconsin. When I lived in NYC people would say, "Oh, you're from out West." Now I live in California and people say, "Oh, you're from back East."

I'm going to focus my efforts on winning the point for best barns. Did everyone forget Minnesota has the best barn in the UNIVERSE?!

I'll take that point back now!
