UNLV ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF FOOTBALL HEAD COACH BOBBY HAUCK

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football head coach Bobby Hauck is resigning his position after coaching the team in Saturday’s season-ending game against Nevada, Reno at Sam Boyd Stadium, UNLV Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Friday.

“Bobby Hauck submitted his resignation, effective Monday, and I have accepted it,” Kunzer-Murphy said. “No one has worked harder in trying to achieve consistent success with our football program than Coach Hauck and we thank him for his dedication and leadership. He and his staff have worked tirelessly in trying to achieve the results we all want to see but it unfortunately has not happened. We wish Bobby and his family the very best in their future endeavors.”

Hauck, who had two years left on his contract, will receive a one-time payment of $400,000 to complete the University’s financial obligations.

Hauck is finishing his fifth year at UNLV and his 12th overall as a head coach. He heads into Saturday’s Battle for the Fremont Cannon with a record of 15-48 with the Rebels, including 11-27 in the Mountain West Conference. Before being hired as the 10th head coach in UNLV history on Dec. 23, 2009, he compiled a record of 80-17 at the FCS-level University of Montana from 2003-09.

After three two-win seasons to start his time in Las Vegas, Hauck last year led the Rebels to their first appearance in a bowl game since 2000 with an overall record of 7-6 and became the first UNLV coach to win five Mountain West games (5-3). The 2014 Rebels go into Saturday’s finale with a record of 2-10 overall and 1-6 in league play.

“We were given an opportunity to get it done here at UNLV and we simply did not win enough games,” Hauck said. “It’s my responsibility to push the program forward and I wish we would have produced better results.

“I would like to thank our University leadership for their support of our program; in particular, President Don Snyder, Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy and Board of Regents Chair Kevin Page. In addition, I would like to thank our student body, alumni and community leaders for their support of Rebel Football.”

Not a surprising development considering UNLV's record, plus they were issued sanctions due to low academic standards. It appears that UNLV is a tough place to win at. I doubt Hauck will be out of work for long. He will likely find an assistant position and eventually be a head coach again, IMO.

Yeah, it is a tough place to win. We are light years ahead of UNLV when it come to facilities. Scary given we're considered last in the B1G. I was at the Gopher game vs. UNLV. Their stadium is off campus at the edge of town. I've seen nicer high school stadiums. The dimly lit gravel parking lot is an appropriate accessory to the stadium.
 

Maybe they can bring in Brady Hoke when Michigan fires him. He had some success in that conference.

His former job at U of Montana will be open at the end of the year, not saying that he would want to return, but it is an option.
 

It sounds like a good comeback job for a certain chilli connoisseur.
 

I like him. I will always associate him with a tough opponent during the dawn of the Gopher turnaround.

There was a plan to pave the lot but the word on the street was that that $ went to buyout Mike Sanford when he was fired before Hauck got the job. There is/was also a plan for an on campus stadium, but that has been put on the back shelf in favor of a medical school (understandably).

Yes, the record speaks for itself. However, I think that those sanctions were dropped. It turns out that the UNLV athletic dept had miscalculated their player's academic progress. They were in fact in compliance with NCAA policies, but didn't know it.
 




I call BS on part any complaints about the actual facility. There is nothing wrong with the bones of Sam Boyd Stadium. SBS was better than the Metrodome and better than some Big Ten Stadiums.


I was at the 2012 game, and Sam Boyd Stadium was not any worse than Kinnick or Memorial Stadium at Indiana. The sightlines where good and the room between the seats was good.

The real, and big problem with Sam Boyd Stadium was that it was in the middle of nowhere, 15 miles from the Strip. UNLV needs to play football within the immediate vicinity view of the LV Strip.
