Oregon transfer Brennan Rigsby commits to MN

Did he really play 43 minutes against Creighton in the tourney? And the only stats recorded:

Rebound: 1
Fouls: 3

It seems like a typo (although the game was 2 OT).
That stat jumped out at me. Nobody stays on the floor that long in an important game if they don't play defense. I hope he is a shutdown defender.

So we swapped junior guards.
Downgraded 9.5 points to 6.1.
7.5 assists to 1.1.
Downgraded 3pt% and FT%.

But at least Coyle did his job and pacified the fan-base.
I'm guessing this is a type of player we try to bring in regardless if Hawkins leaves or not. I doubt this is the only guard they are going to try to bring in.

This is surely not the player they are targeting to replace Hawkins.

Guessing we would've taken Rigsby even had Hawkins stayed.

He was a JC teammate of Kasean Pryor who is another Gopher target.

The little bit I've been able to find about what Oregon fans thought of him, it wasn't a big loss for them when he entered the portal. Showed potential at times but at other times looked lost. Apparently was terrible during the tournament this past year.

He looked good on D. Saw the tourney game where they got eliminated FWIW.
The one he played 43 minutes has 0 points 0 assists 1 rebound and 3 fouls?

As a 9th man sure, but CBJ will probably play him 38 min a game. Losing 2 starters maybe a 3rd plus 2 bench guys and very little to replace that....ohh joy what an offseason

Defensive specialists (like Carrington) are seldom fan favorites.

He goes from a 6th man on NCAA tournament to a 9th man on the Gophers. You clowns are hilarious. Thanks for the $100 btw

Oregon had some injuries so I'm not sure he was really their 6th man other than because he was forced into it.

He played as 6th man from the 1st game of the season on.
Correct but I get the feeling he kept that spot because of the injuries. Two better guards missed substantial time and neither were available February - March.

I'm guessing though so could be wrong.

Two players scored 60 of their 73 points for Dana Altman who has been coach of the year, in each of the four conferences he’s coached in: Marshall, K-State, Creighton and Oregon.

How CBJ uses him or doesn’t is not anything I or you have control over. I was simply offering my opinion on someone who watched on game of his, as noted FWIW.

Had 19 in a win against Michigan and 18 against Washington State on the road. Can't be all that bad. Small sample size, but im sure with the guys on his team, he wasnt asked to score too much. Looks like he's capable though.

All that matters to Coyle is that Coyle's wife isn't complaining, regardless of what the fan-base wants.

Well, we're already much, much stronger in the front court with Garcia, Fox, and F. Mitchell than his first year team and I suspect he'll pick up one more in the front court (he should anyway but you never know about him).
Fox was injured his first year and didn't play.

On our budget, plus our need for scoring and ball handling, especially if Christie leaves why not scoop up the Macalester guy who lit us up and scored 50 versus somebody else?

Cousinard and Dante their two major scorers were legit. Dante’s 20 & 20 double double had only also been accomplished for a Pac12 team in the NCAA Tournament, by Walton and Alcindor.

Or this kid is more a replacement for Carrington and they are still looking for a true PG to replace Hawkins.
This is how I feel about it. My feelings about Carrington leaving were that you can find a lot of guys to do the same thing. Rigsby can replace Carrington's role and play some PG when needed. I'm assuming -- hoping -- he isn't our starting point guard but will be a valuable contributor.

Comparing Stats from last year, other than assists pretty similar.
