Glass or plastic?

At Gold Country they had this framed panaramic photo for sale for $100 (thin black frame) and $200 (maroon & gold matted with thick black frame). I noticed that the $100 frame used glass and the $200 frame had plastic not glass. I thought it was strange and assumed the more expensive frame would have the glass. Did anyone buy the $200 matted frame and get glass?
