Ouch. He could go from having a step-up to USF to not having his old job back at Manhattan.
 

It amazes me that this continues to happen to coaches. How they don't learn from each other's needless mistakes is beyond me, not to mention, with that type of job, there is no benefit in lying about something like that. He wasn't being hired because he has a degree from UK, he was being hired for his coaching, just as long as he had a degree from somewhere, even a lesser academic school like wisconsin.

Maybe UCF will hire him since they already have George O'Leary.
 



Wow. So does Manhattan not have a rule about this, or did they just do a terrible job on the background check?

Worst thing about it, is he might only be a couple of credits away or something, and probably could have gotten them taken care of he'd of only made an effort.

My guess would be he didn't get a degree. Just a guess though.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I believe Rich Pitino's resume is exaggerated a bit as well. I expect nothing less from the Pitino family and coaching tree.

As a separate thought:
Why, in this day and age of moneyball, they are requiring coaches to have Masters Degrees is beyond me.

I think exaggerated is the wrong word. A conspiracy came up when he said he had a position from 1996-1997 or something, some would say implying he held it for a year, but it was actually like September 96 - February 97.

Note- those dates probably aren't close, but from memory that is my recollection of the "controversy"

Pitino would have been likely in his freshman year of high school around then, so you're right, your dates were a little off haha. Goes to show just how young our coach is though. I think John Groce is the second youngest coach in the Big Ten and even he's almost exactly 11 years older than Pitino.

I remember this controversy though. If I recall correctly, some guy had an outburst on one of the Gophers' Facebook pages and eventually made a couple posts here about it. I think the actual dates were about 10 years later, 05, 06, or 07, something like that. I also remember it being something like saying he held a position for a year when it was actually only 7 or 8 months or something.

Actually, Chris Collins is second youngest but he is eight years older than Little Richard.

Good catch, I forgot about him. John Groce must have been the youngest when he entered the Big Ten, I think that's what I was thinking of.

Why get greedy and apply for better job when you are already lucky to just to have the current job, now he might end up unemployed
 

I wouldn't write him off just yet. This might well be an administrative issue, like an overdue library book. If he sports the class ring and tie-tack, that's usually good enough for a coaching job.
 


Fire him for telling a massive lie on his resume. Don't let a scumbag like him keep his 500k plus job...
 

CBS: Manhattan officially reinstates coach Steve Masiello

It's been a tumultuous three months for Steve Masiello, but it seems he's finally back to where it began: as the head coach of Manhattan.

The Jaspers officially reinstated Masiello on Friday afternoon.

"We are happy to have Coach Masiello back on campus. We are pleased he was able to complete his academic requirements in order to enable his return. His presence will greatly benefit our men's basketball student-athletes and the entire program," athletic director Noah D. LeFevre said in a statement.

Or went AWOL from the armed forces and still somehow avoided any consequences. No, this is nowhere near THAT bad.
 

I remember lying on my first resume. I said I had previous work experience in lawn care business. All I had done was mowed lawns with an old reo type push by hand lawn mower. But it was experience in lawn care, so when I got hired, my new boss said "You didn't lie, you just exagerated."
