Once again Mike Max was co-host on the Sports Huddle.

Unfortunately when I accessed the Sports Huddle at 10:30 a.m. - usual time for the Tracy Claeys segment - they were talking Viking football. Apparently Tracy Claeys was on earlier. This happened a few weeks ago, when Mike Max was the co-host. I should have checked in earlier. In any case, if someone heard the Tracy Claeys segment, please share what you heard.

The next two Sundays I'll be busy with family commitments. As a result, I will not be listening to the Sports Huddle. I will return in three weeks.

Go Gophers!!

Don't worry, we blame Mike Max, not you :). Thanks for all your great recaps!

DL65 - When I listened to it I thought it was a rerun of last week's show. Dave Mona was gone and Sid asked the same questions as he did last week. All you need to do is re-post your report from last week and change the date to today. Problem solved!

No issues with me. Probably more things going on behind the scenes these days. Thanks for being there during the season.

No need to apologize, your efforts every week are greatly appreciated !

Can't help. Didn't listen to the first hour of the Sports Huddle. (I detest Mike Max, so when he's the co-host, I listen to ESPN1500.)

Further thought - Sid is really slipping. It seems to get worse every week. In the part of the show I listened to, Mike Max had to repeat everything that was said once or twice until Sid understood what was going on. If anyone at CCO had any guts, they would pull the plug, or work out some way for Sid to make a graceful exit. I respect his long career, but he has no business hosting a radio show any more.

My suggestion would be to find a new permanent host (NOT Mike Max), and have Sid do a pre-taped bit every week: Sid Hartman's sports memories (or play some of the old Sports Heroes segments)

Frankly I'm tired of DL's excuses and think we GH's need to get more serious about this situation. I say we start by limiting his contract extension to only five or six years, maybe seven. Okay, eight years but not a year longer unless DL agrees to the same salary in which case we make it a 10-year extension. Hopefully DL will get the message.

And don't think for a moment I take back any previous posts about DL! There, I said it.

DL - the only thing I find more impressive than your dedication to writing a summary every Sunday is that you take the time to tell us when you can't or missed the show for some reason. You are a definite asset to GH. Thanks again for your efforts.

Damn straight! Dude gets more free passes here than Barry Bonds. And we all smile, say thank you, and put up with it.

I did hear the Sports Huddle this morning. Here is what I remember:

*Sid wrote about Ace Rogers yesterday indicating that he would not be eligible for a medical redshirt. Sid asked Claeys about this, and Tracy said they wouldn't know if it would be granted, but would probably know one way or another in April.

*Sid asked about the quarterbacks. Claeys said that Croft, Green and Rhoda have looked good in limited practices. Lots of new things for Green to get used to, but he has the benefit of being here this spring, so he will be able to have a head start for summer. He'll make the most gains in fall practice.

*Sid asked about players that have stood out so far. Names that I remember include Merrick Jackson, as I believe he was the first one that was mentioned. He sounded upbeat about him, and said the defensive tackle position is in good shape. Kiante Hardin was mentioned again. He said he has gotten bigger and stronger since the bowl game and they feel good about him at corner. He also mentioned Gentry and Register, and said they will help make the wide receivers a good group.

*Sid asked about the redshirt freshman and who is making an impact. Claeys mentioned quite a few, but the ones I remember are Connelly and Beebe on offense. He also praised Buford and D. Johnson.

*Sid asked what would be the starting offensive line if they had a game tomorrow. Claeys said the two JC guys would be there, Pirsig has looked great at right tackle. The only question would be left tackle. Nick Connelly has done awfully well, but he's only a redshirt freshman. An option would be to move Wright to left tackle, and fill in with Connor Mayes at guard.

*Sid asked how the new coaches are fitting in. Claeys said they are fitting in well and Coach Johnson is instilling a new system. Some things the same, but kids will learn some new terminology. Oline coach Miller has instilled some new things. Now, when they come back, they'll be focusing on fundamentals, and not learning too many new things.

Sid offered Tracy a big steak from Murray's. Stacy must have a lot of those certificates.

That is a solid idea. Yes, he's worked long and hard. But it is so frustrating to have everything repeated over and over. And I am tired of his defense of Kahler's poor decisions and him butting in about who should be the AD. First it's Goetz and now it's Mason. And how can a hearing aid company have him be a spokesperson?????

Finally, on his Sunday TV show he is such a bully to Lavelle and others. He wants to speak all the time. I say it's time to put him out to pasture and take Max with him.

First, I want to thank those who responded to this thread with their kind comments.

MNGoldenGophers1 - I got your message; however, I don't believe in extended contracts. I operate under a day-to-day contract. I have greater flexibility that way, and if I have a real good day I get a new contract with fine print and a lot of Murray gift certificates and vacation days. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Thank you CWCWCW for your re-cap. Nice job! The questions and responses sound familiar.

DL65 - The reporting part of your job should now be a piece of cake with Sid asking the same questions ever week. All you need to do is cut and paste the previous weeks report. When it comes to having to listen to Sid you deserve hazardous duty pay and a big pay raise.

Mr. DL65 There are multiple rumors that you are being considered for the NFL/Vikings Sports Huddle Recap position. Will you take it if offered? If so, how do you expect to handle the transition without prior NFL experience?

They're just rumors. I'm a Golden Gopher, college football fan. Although I'm sure I could make the transition without any difficulty, I'll leave that position open to others to pursue.

Killjoy - I appreciate your suggestion. But I'll keep listening and transcribing the Tracy Claeys segments; and I'll try to ascertain the nuances of the questions asked.

I apologize, of the many skills you have, capturing the nuances may be your best. To even suggest that you could be replaced by a pair of scissors is the height of foolishness!:banghead:
