Since this play didn’t affect the outcome of the game, it got lost in the shuffle, but it was a big boy play. This is what gets the attention of NFL scouts, provided they can do it consistently. He bought time with his feet, and threw it 30+ yards on a rope, into a very tight window. This is what Joe Burrow does, and the reason he’ll likely be the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

I really hope he can take the next step and show this more often. We’ve seen him throw accurate passes on the run in the past. I think it just comes down to feeling the pass rush, and knowing when to escape. That should come with experience.

That play was "Burrow like" The great toss and catch get lost in the shuffle because the now infamous 35-yard line punt followed a few plays later.

Keep in mind Tanner is just heading into his Jr season and by votes hes the 2nd best QB in the BigTen

The TD pass at FSU to tie the game was his best of the year.

Then Big Dan went down shortly after that. That was all she wrote.

In my mind there are only 3 types of QB:

Great - Very few of those.

OK - Plenty of those.

Bad - Me and a lot of other people.

Tanner IMO has established him in the top tier. At that level the differences in my mind are largely happenstance. Tanner is a great QB.

How many QBs have we heard that about? ... QBs are born, I don't think they really develop like we might otherwise expect.

In terms of raw talent you are probably right. You would hope as they get older their qb iq improves and you can put more plays in the playbook.

Hmmm...I’m going to have to disagree with that. They may be born with the talent. What they do with the talent can vary considerably. They absolutely develop their skills over time. That’s how a 3-star QB that most people said was too short ends up being one of the best QBs in the country. So, my purpose of posting this was to prove that he’s capable of taking the next step. He has the physical ability to make a “Burrow-like” play. I have no doubt he’ll improve his pocket awareness over the next two seasons, and we’ll see more of this.

3 stars turn into great QBs because we're bad at identifying them / possibly don't have good data.

This has been proven to be correct 100% of the time

Honestly, I think his height was the main driver behind that rating, just like it was for Drew Brees. His high school highlights look pretty impressive to me.

I think the plays and such are what I think of as "happenstance" as far as who is around them and options and such.

Tanner to me is like Case Keenum. He’s just a winner. He may not be the most mobile QB but all he does is make plays, he may not have the strongest arm but he puts it in a position where our 3 athletic receivers can make plays, and he may not have the height to look over lineman but he finds windows and puts the ball on the money.

Keenum's season here looks to have been a fluke.
