Kill has said there's one more spot open in this class due to Drew Davis's decommit.
Any thoughts on where we go to fill it?
Some options:
-Give the spot to either Anywanu or Lauer and eliminate a grayshirt.
-Fill with a LB to replace Drew Davis, maybe that JUCO blip that was reported 2 days ago, Jackson?
-Save it and try to find a late qualifier or between the cracks prospect like Cobb or Foreman was last year.
-Stockpile it and give it to a walk on this season, freeing another spot up for our small class next year.

Thoughts?

I posted this in the JC poll, but there might be two open spots.

Gophers still trying to get Shabazz in school, apparently, even though he had too many Ds in JUCO to get into Baylor.

Kill mentioned last night that Timms (DT) took Davis' spot when he decided to flip to NC State. Kill also hinted that there may be one or two spots available. I think the two primary candidates are Marceice Jackson (JC linebacker) and Elijah Steen (HS LB/S). There have been reports that both may visit in the next couple weeks.

I say save it to see if any real big talents don't make it to their school for academics or whatnot. Otherwise, give it to a deserving walk-on for the year and save it for next year since we won't have many scholarships to give out anyways.

Steen and Jackson are both big hitter types, I'm hoping for one of them.
Jackson's obviously ready to play now. Steen looks like the type that would bulk up and be a really good LB, Kill took a couple safeties at NIU that were 6'1ish 200ish and made them impact linebackers at 220-230.

Hopefully Shabazz makes it in. He's probably the top guy of the 3 JUCO DBs IMO.

Tevin Shaw anybody?
Iowa offered, he supposedly waitd until signing day to commit, they said he no longer had an offer, he's looking.
CB/S/RB/ATH 5'11 195

Maybe offer a chance to play(and beat) the hawkeyes every year.

Wait, isn't Shabazz one of the 8 guys already there?

It was a left field tweet by Reusse. Can't tell if he was just being funny or if he knows something.

Shabazz is definitely already there because there a 5 JuCos and 3 HS'ers so I think it safe to say he got in. Reusse just taking a shot at the U. Probably mad at how excited the fans are.

Yeah I thought this sounded too much like Reusse trolling. Shabazz is indeed enrolled according to onestop.

And if anyone is curious the U of M has 8 Shabazz's on campus now.

Hasn't Shabazz been attending classes for the last 2 weeks? Would think this would have been noticed sooner and by someone more observant that Fat Pat.

We need to fill every available scholly with as much talent as possible...we just don't have enough depth or talent to pocket a scholly for next season....IMO.

Yes Shabazz is enrolled. What is Reusse talking about?

My apologies for posting that. I missed out on the great humor of the cynical old turd.

Shaw is interesting, but since he is literally in Rutgers' backyard and didn't even get an offer, that has me a little concerned. Rutgers generally offers anyone and everyone in New Jersey worth having.

That being said, I pocket the scholarship and give it to a deserving Sr. walk-on...unless someone you've been tracking is available and interested. I don't like these late offers/signees that pop up. They do sometimes work out, but it reeks of a desperation to have as many warm bodies in camp as possible.

Did you really pay the 2.50 to confirm his enrollment? Now that would be a committed poster.

Kill did pretty good last year with his late pick ups (David Cobb, Cedric Thompson, Malcolm Mouton & Dexter Foreman all signed after the NSD). Hopefully, he can find another late gem.

If you're paying someone 2.50 to look stuff up on onestop I've got some great lakefront property to sell you.

I would like to give it to a walk on...it sends a good message...Just look at what Nebraska has done with their walk on program.

He isn't the only one reporting academic eligibility issues with Martez. Per Darren Wolfson:

Juco cornerback Martez Shabazz, if OK academically, will be a starter. http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Wolfson_Look_at_2008_U_class_confirms_signing_day_is_one_big_maybe020312

I'm guessing their whole speculation is that he had D's so if he can't keep up with the grades at MN they'll look like geniuses for being the first ones to call it. Irregardless they just sound like idiots looking for something to get anyone reading the garbage they usually write.

Gotta love it when *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# like this happens.

Back to the point of this whole thread. I'd say that you definitely give it to a senior walk on like an earlier poster mentioned. Shows area kids that you will reward your walk-ons in the future if they contribute and creates more guys willing to take the chance at walking on vs going to NDSU, UND, USD, etc.

it helps when you have a recent history of winning... the gophers walk on program will be much different once they win... its also nebraska for crying out loud... the ONLY sporting attraction in the state.... big difference..

According the the local news here OL Ryan Glasgow of Marmion (brother of Graham) is being recruited by Kill for a PWO. He's 6'4" 270 and plays basketball as well. He's considering Mich, MN, and NIU. Could be why Kill was spotted in Chicago the other day.

As previously mentioned, Kill was in Chicago for a Big Ten coaches meeting.
