One charcteristic of a young team particular one that is learning a new system is they play inconsistantly. Surely that has been our case. Two weeks ago after losing by 3 points to Wisconsin fans were ready to hang up the season. Then we beat Purdue and the fans were talking about upsetting Penn State. Now after losing to Penn State, the sky is falling again.
So what will we feel like next week?

When we get a well seasoned team comfortable in the "system" we will be more consistant.

Be patient!!

One might argue that the system needs to be coherent and simple enough for players to get up to speed quickly considering the high rate of turnover on collegiate rosters. It's not like you can keep guys in place for 5 or 6 years, generally you have a short window at key positions to get a player in, get production and then find a replacement.

For the most part I think we are seeing our OL take positive steps. The OL has performed well against the bad DL's in the league (Purdue, Northwestern), struggled against good DL's (Penn State & we'll likely struggle against a very good OSU DL this weekend) and they played one good half against Wisconsin and then struggled in the 2nd half when we let ourselves get behind. This is a process and hopefully the OL gets better as the season progresses (you can't fairly judge the progression/regression when we go from Purdue to Penn State in one week).

Young team? Who has a young team? Surely not the Gophers.

Young team? Didn't the Gophers have the most returning experience in the B10 coming into this season? I count 16 Seniors and 10 Juniors in the 2-deeps. Is that considered young? I honestly have no idea and don't feel like looking at every depth chart in the country....

We do have many young skill position players on offense. Combine that with an inept O-line and you're going to have inconsistency.

The D is a more veteran group and has been pretty consistent this year.
