I'm about to head out to watch our #1 Gopher Ladies take on UND in hockey and then head over to watch our #1 Men's team take on Bemidji St.

Go Gophers.

Also, if we're still trying to compete for a division title, this was the one to lose, although a terrible loss. We still control our own destiny. Trying to be optimistic here.

Always look on the bright side of life. Wee hoo, wee hoo hoo hoo hoo .

We control our own destiny. Let's see how the games fall next week and beat Iowa.

Gopher hockey, still #1. Beat Bemidji

6-2 at this point didn't look so bad going into the the season.

No. I think we'd all have taken 6-2 at this point. But no one knew how bad Michigan was. At best this loss neutralizes that win.

Women's hockey? Now you're just being condescending.

We have the jug. We could still get floyd and/or the axe

I'll admit, I'd rather beat Michigan and loose to Illinois than vice versa.

I like this thread. It is somewhat calming my urge to destroy property. :)

Agreed. I'd rather lose a close game we could have won to a team that hasn't beaten us in awhile and needs a win that lose badly to a team that regularly pounds our butts. Weird game. If you would have told me a week ago that we would rack up 411 yards, yield 263, and lose, I would have thought that didn't seem possible.

On the bright side a 6-6 record probably pairs us against some crap team we can beat in a bowl.

Too late for me. I wish this thread was created about an hour earlier.

I really need a punching bag for the football season.

Maybe this makes us hungrier than we might have been, going forward. So we beat Iowa, and then win a game we probably shouldn't. Going in, I would have taken an 8 win (before a bowl) season in a heartbeat. 7 wouldn't piss me off, either. I know we want stuff to happen overnight, but it seldom works that way.

On the bright side, the Kill to Michigan rumors are dead.

Oh well. My RAGE has somewhat subsided. Still 4 games left. Lots of football left to play.

I honestly wish that did anything for me.

I like this train of thought. I got the feeling after last week's game that we, especially the defense, were getting a little overconfident. That we were "tOSU" and could just walk out, give 80 - 90% effort and blow lesser teams out of the water. Although today sucked a big one, hopefully the guys learn from it, realize that we are only a good Big Ten team when we are out-working and out-executing our opponent. Talent-wise, we are not head and shoulders above any team in the league.

We could all see the downward regression since the Michigan game. We either turn a corner, come back and kick the snot out of Iowa and play our best football the rest of the way out, or we shut down, and the regression continues. I have faith in the former, but fear the latter.

1st Quarter ~~ Illinois 14 - Minnesota 0; Total yards ~~ Illinois 157 - Minnesota 40; First downs ~~ Illinois 7 - Minnesota 2
Rest of Game ~~ Illinois 14 - Minnesota 24; Total yards ~~ Illinois 106 - Minnesota 371; First downs ~~ Illinois 9 - Minnesota 17

Our first quarter was brutal, but we dominated the field for the last 3 quarters. We lost this game because we simply made mistakes, and let's be honest, we were unlucky a few times. Ferguson fumbles pitch and bounces right back to him, Fruechte loses long TD in the sun...???

We effed it up at the beginning, and weren't able to get the W, but we definitely don't suck. Our first quarter sucked. Some of Mitch's passes sucked. Cobb's fumble sucked. Santoso's missed FG sucked.

Don't give up hope!! I still believe we are improving and can be in, and possibly win, any of the final 4 games!

Good post!

Our favorite college football team lost a game today. If your still upset about it, you need to find other things to do with your time. So enjoy the weekend, do something active, get some coffee, fight a polar, i don't know!

I'm actually able to see the humor in the rage and overreaction. The usual culprits spew their bile, those on the fence jump to the dark side, the solid, rational and experienced ones deal with their disappointment, express it and realize in sports -- like life -- upsets happen.

This is still a good team. We have good players and coaches. We have mostly overcome what feels to me like a high percentage of borderline calls made that shouldn't be, and not made that should. The oblong ball isn't bouncing our way and we're not yet elite to win every game without unflinching superior effort.

Prior to yesterday, if I was given the option of winning 4 of the last 5, I would have easily chosen this one to be the loss. Anyone agree?
