ol' jer' is a ball coach, it's who he is, it's in his blood. he turns boys into men and football is his vehicle. ol' jer' is steadfast on loyalty. he was loyal to his staff and the student athletes under his teachings at minnesota. since leaving minnesota a few years ago, ol' jer' has been loyal to staff, admins, coaches and student athletes at kansas state, rutgers, southern illinois, virginia tech, tcu and now new mexico state. ol' jer' demands the same loyalty from his family as he does those coaches he mentors and the spouses they marry.
just don't make this whole ordeal about him though. despite doing interviews with shama, shooter, shaver and agreeing to do a dunkers event tomorrow morning, this isn't about him. he doesn't want the media and fans talking about him, this is about the boys he's impacting. this isn't about the boys he left behind at his five stops in between minnesota and new mexico state. heck, its the ad's who keeping calling him, even though he doesn't want to keep answering the phone.
doggone it, life would be a whole lot simpler if ol' jer' wasn't needed. this isn't about him, he'd never embarrass anyone like the new guy at minnesota does, no way, ol' jer' doesn't need slogans, he just builds programs brick by brick, he doesn't need to humiliate to lead he just has players wear golden loafers jerseys. no, this is about turning boys into men and football just happens to be his vehicle. the other guy at minnesota, he's different, he makes it all about him, but not ol' jer'.
