The Gophers have received a commitment from Dublin, Ohio linebacker Devon Williams. He previously committed to Kentucky in late January, but flipped to Minnesota on Friday. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker also held offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Iowa State and others, per 24/7 Sports Rankings.

Williams stood out in coverage and has excellent sideline-to-sideline range. He was equally effective at defending the run and caused disruptions as a blitzer. Williams can adequately cover in underneath zones and frequently got into passing lanes. He is a very physical run defender and fights through blocks to make plays. In several of these clips, Williams also set the edge and angled plays back inside. Small details like that make a huge difference in games.

Here’s a look at his film:

The Gophers have been amassing players with length and speed in on defense in the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes.

There is no doubt that Gophers will be the team to watch in the next four years now that they are beginning to attract players that can bring them up to the next level.

This is what an 11-2 season does. How many teams would love to have PJ Fleck as their head coach?
