Oh Happy Day!! Coyle announces 2017 football ticket increases will NOT happen!

Lots of people not making any sense, as per usual. What does rescinding a 2017 increase have to do with your decision to not renew this year? Why would you move sections this year because they're raising prices next year?

Your first question is fair. Your second question isn't. I could make a good case for moving this year before next year's increase in the hope of "beating the rush" and having better options than you would next year - if you thought a lot of folks were going to make the move next year. I cancelled at increase 1 so none of it mattered to me.

Yeah, you're making sense and everyone else isn't. Face it, you and a couple of other pollyanna idiots have been on the wrong side of this thing since day one and Coyle's message confirms it. I guess that's why you're dope68.

Well, playing Devil's advocate--
This season's schedule is not super attractive. A person will have no problem getting good seats on the secondary market for less than the cost of renewal. You lose your ability to renew, but with the increase coming, you weren't going to anyway, so you pull the plug a year early.

Please point out any single place where I've posted in support of the price increases, you ****ing prick.

With season tickets now under 23K, I would imagine the timetable for expansion of the stadium to 80K have been pushed back.

I wonder what the incremental value to the team in terms of an increase in performance is from the revenue they would have received. I would be it is minimal, especially after disbursing the revenue across the entire AD.

It's incremental, yes, but at least revenue would be increasing. We expect to compete with the big boys, but our fans don't shell out the money that they do. We all know it's a slanted field. Had we been able to sell out with the increases we'd at least be chipping away at that disparity and moving in the right direction - instead we're standing still.

+1 That was exactly my reason. I told the ticket office this when doing it. I discussed strategies for keeping my tickets. Seemed to be the best option since 2017 was looming. For clarity, I moved to one of the non-donation sections. kept tickets, but lost preferred seats. oh well. Still in the house.

Because most people take multiple factors into account when making large $$ decisions.

1. Do I really want to pay an increase this year when the home schedule is worse ?

2. Do I want to afford going to a potential great bowl game?

3. As stated, if I move his year I have an advantage over next year.

4. We have a new AD and many things are fluid. Wait and see.

5. I can wait and look at weather forecast and still get tickets that week.

Anyone is free to give more than the suggested donation. A casual reading of this topic on GH shows you these facts:
1. There is a group that if not large, is certainly loud, that finds the price of football tickets nearly inelastic.
2. There is a group that thinks that for every person reacting elastically to the increase there is a real fan ready to buy a ticket.
3. There is currently a net drop of 5,100 season tickets.

The effect of price on the loss of season ticket holders is not certain, but must be rationally considered be a factor. The fantasy that there is a pent-up demand for premium tickets remains a fantasy. I got better seats in my 2-packs than I every had as a season ticket holder with donation seats.

Right, so you pulled your tickets this year because you deemed them too expensive. Whether or not the price increases next year is immaterial to this year. That's my point.

I'm not going to bust your chops because this is indeed the fact. But hypothetically, someone might find the 2016 price with a more attractive schedule a good value and pay for this year to get the next.

As a season ticket holder, I could care less who we are playing. Unless there are special circumstances I am at all games. Some of the decrease in season tickets might be because Nebraska fans didn't buy any of our season tickets this year. Season ticket holder since 1971 minus 1983 and 1984.

While stadium talk is always fun..... I'm always a bit amazed when some folks bring it up as if it's something we should do.

On the other hand no need to think about ever putting the ugly blue seats in the open end!

I agree with you, every game is attractive and I want to be at them all.

it was discussed and i am here to state i was wrong. I figured they would never pull em back due to the backlash of droppers who feared the hike. again, i was wrong----so happy and wrong!

That is okay. You were wrong about Leidner also but we still love you.

I'm guessing if you called the ticket office, they would be more than happy to upgrade you to a better zone ... they are quite helpful and accommodating, from my experience!
I could be wrong, but I would be shocked if they said "no" to a request for an upgrade!

My experience with ticket office this year has been very good. When ordering my season tickets for 2016 I told them I was very concerned about another increase in 2017 and I wasn't sure that I would be renewing then in 2017. I was told that many people had also voiced the similar concerns and they were passing on all our comments.

At that time I did think that it was a definite possibility that the proposed 2017 increase might be cancelled if enough people cancelled and or voiced their concerns. I also I thought that there would be a good chance that I could improve my seats location in my section. I was told that they would given me a call when it was my turn and let me know what my options were. When they did call I was able to improve my seats. At that time I did mention I was interested in also purchasing a two pack. They then assigned me an account represented who said he would call/e-mail me before the two packs went on sale. This would allow me to pre-order them a few days before they went on sale to the public. As a result I was able to select my tickets before the sale began.

All and all I have noticed a definite improvement and professionalism in the ticket office staff.

I would agree with this last part. I hope its a sign of things to come across the athletic department.

Go Gophers!!

I'm done judging people on how they want to spend their money, but I will never understand the 'unattractive schedule' argument. Sure, the years where wisconsin and Nebraska are off the schedule we should see a decrease in tickets that THEIR fans purchase - but I would much rather see us beat Rutgers than lose to OSU. I think this year's schedule is great - should be a lot of W's, which is the point.

And I thought I was bad... lol

The last Gopher football game I went to was TCU, and I went because there was a chance to see something special. Games where you go in a heavy favorite and win are nice, but not that memorable usually.

I'll take a crack. Think most are talking from the point of purchasing multiple season tix or for the less than diehard fan. I had 4 tix for years. I went to two this year b/c of the donation increase AND the schedule...could not see finding 2-3 people interested in going (for free) to a majority of the games this year based on opponents. Had this happen to a lesser extent last year...sold 1-2 tix most games to scalpers for beer money. In most cases, nobody came and sat in the seats.

For the less diehard fans, they are definitely swayed by the schedule, given the Gophs up and down performance.

I agree. I go to the game to watch the gophers. I would be lying if I said i want more fired up to go to the TCU or Michigan game last year, but the thought of not going to a game vs a poor opponent never crossed my mind.

I usually go to one preseason and one Big Ten game... I want to watch my team win! Ohio St would be the last game I would ever pick. Not there for the opponent sorry some are not me. I will not freeze my butt off.

Yeah, I want to be able to tell my grand kids I was there when we beat Kent State. Reality is there are games and there are GAMES!!!, whether it's rivalry, conference, or a chance to upset a top team. I wouldn't trade the last close loss to Ohio State at home for this years Rutgers game, that stadium was rocking right up til the end.

I'm going to those lesser games too, but the threshold of what it would take to make me miss those versus say Iowa this year is much lower.

Yup, all you need as evidence that most people see it like you is to compare the attendance of non-conference cupcakes and conference doormats vs. the "helmet" schools.

NO that was a horrible game....

But seriously though if it was an undefeated season, I bet you'd mention it ;)
