***OFFICIAL OLE MISS VS MINNESOTA RD OF 32 NCAA TOURNAMENT IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I have NEVER HEARD THE BARN LOUDER! I have to shout now because I can't hear. Go Gophers!!!
It was absolutely deafening at the end there. A couple of us in our section felt like we needed to get the crowd going a couple times, but it didn’t take much to get back going even if they had a few attempts to take the crowd back out.

Way to go Gophers! After watching, playing, and coaching much basketball for most of my life, I often reach a level where if the announcers irritate me three times I turn them way down for a while, or even off!

The Gopher radio feed is usually 15 to 20 seconds behind actual play, so that doesn’t work…
Depending on what platform you use to watch, you may be able to pause your video for a few seconds and get them to match up.

With all the Ole miss fan/Twitter complaining about the refs would have assumed ft difference was a lot more than 1

Nothing on Oklahoma St schedule or stats page to have any hope of pulling off an upset

What a gritty win.....and an amazing atmosphere. The Barn is such a special place when there is a good product on the floor.....

As a lifetime Minnesota fan, I just assumed when McKinney took the shot to the face that she would have a concussion and that would be the way the season would end.

Finally, the sports Gods looked favorably upon us LOL

Just watched the replay.....
Did anyone catch when McMahon fouled out and she's walking to the bench she hold her hands up and makes the "cash" sign by rubbing her fingers together??
How is that not a technical? Rudy Gobert got fined (suspended?) for doing that in an NBA game....

Yeah, I saw that in real time at the game and was frustrated none of the refs caught it. On the replay I noticed the camera cut away awfully quick when she did it.

So obviously there is a lot on anger about McMahon fouling out. However basketball is a 40 minute game. In the first half she drives hard and out of control. Battle clearly takes a charge. Would have been McMahon‘a third in the 1st half. Then the gophers get 3 fouls going through ball screens with minimal to no contact and Ole Miss gets to shoot a bunch of free throws to keep them in the game in the first half. Minnesota finishes the half with four players with two fouls. So as much as I ge their frustration about the end. Had the first half not ended that way it may not have mattered.

The crowd got that shot clock violation. Being so loud drowns everyone out, including any form of a fan fake count down, which can help a team. Awesome execution down the stretch.

Game, set , match!

And had that been called a charge, Battle wouldn't have sat out the end of the first half, and perhaps they don't catch up to within 3

Right we possible go in up 8-10. Which sets us up better in the third

I know there are people here who respectfully disagree, but I think the refs in the women’s game are just not that good. I don’t watch a lot, but when I do I see officiating that is consistently inconsistent, probably making it very difficult for the players to adapt. The reference to the quick whistles on little contact is a great example.

There is a difference between seeing bad officiating and assuming they are biased. I just think they are bad.

As an addendum, the single worst high profile officiating game I’ve ever seen was the national championship between Iowa and LSU. Not necessarily biased but really bad. And theoretically those are the best the women’s game can offer. It’s a problem for the game. I would prefer to see this as an observation and not whining.

I agree, I think that is what happened.
Regardless, clock stops after made basket in last minute and the refs almost always stop play to look at replay to get exact time left in tenths of a second. The time out is what gave Ole Miss the ball at half court with .8 left.

We, those in attendance, covered our portion of the "spread". The team did the rest.
Thanks to everyone in attendance... we trailed only LSU (11095 vs 10763) in yesterday's games.
I would hope recruits may attention.

Awesome to the see the barn absolutely rocking yesterday.

Even more than other venues, it's one of those places that when empty, it's about the most depressing venue in the country. When it's packed and rocking, it's really special.

Personally, I’d give a wider berth to 22/23 year old college player, than a professional. Additionally, the NBA is very sensitive to that subject matter because of their ref, Tim Donaghy and the gambling scandal.

FWIW - on the radio broadcast, McMahon was lauded for her good sportsmanship in thanking all the Gopher players on the W; maybe was just a heat of the moment thing for her.

I agree. I will quote my brother who was a D2/D3 n HS official for 40 years that refs rarely decide the outcomes of games. That being said the inconsistency in the woman’s game is frustrating. It happens at all levels including the WNBA which has a few horrible officials. In yesterday’s game we shot 1 more FT than OM n most of the other game stats, other than more TO’s for us, were very even. Goldy earned this huge W

There was a play, I think in the fist quarter, where we were forcing OM deep into the shot clock, they put up a shot from the top of the key and it hit the rim and went out of bounds. It was ruled that the Gophers touched it last so OM inbounded with only five seconds on the shot clock and got a shot clock violation. Shouldn’t the clock reset when the ball hit the rim? Saw an Instagram post from an OM fan complaining.

If there a pay discrepancy between the two?

Then be part of the solution. Grab a whistle, get the training and show the rest of us how it's done. Or, become such a respected expert that you are in charge of training referees to do it the way you think is correct. Don't just bitch about a perceived problem, be the solution!

Reminds me of the time where a guy had to fill in to be an umpire for a girls' softball as none of the parents for the other team would do it. During the game, these same parents started complaining about the umpiring. He walked over to the parents who were standing behind the girl's bench and said, hey, which one of you is going to take over? You're the home team and you're supposed to provide the umpiring. They all shut up and not a word was said the rest of the game.

The junior high teams and coaches appreciate my time and consistency, even if infrequent participation.

I remember some folks.. weren't fans of Battle throughout her career here..

how about now?!

what a moment Amaya will never forget.. and imho her #3 belongs up in the rafters
Agree... ran across this today:

Quote Of The Day By Denzel Washington On True Definition Of Success
Washington wrote in his book: "At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back."

IMO this quote will be Battle's legacy.

I'm late to this party but a few things so sorry if any of this is repetitave. First, sitting directly behind the Ole Miss fans, I have to say they were very cordial and was a good time talking to several of them before the game started. During the game they conducted themselves with class. Can't blame them for being enthused and cheering on their team. One Gopher fan was particularly obnoxious, harassing them and an usher had to be called to tell him to knock it off. I didn't see any of them complaining obsessively about the fouls.

Now for the Ole Miss coach and McMahon, who did complain, saying no other star player fouls out in March Madness...Yes they do, or at least get in trouble. She mentioned Caitlin Clark. She and Angel Reese sat on the bench most of that championship game when LSU beat Iowa. Ole Miss did it to themselves. The refs were calling fouls. You adapt. You play less aggressively and find a way to win otherwise. So it's not very wise from a player nor coaching standpoint to put yourselves in that position.

Finally, Ole Miss' coach said the fans won it for Minnesota. Inferring it was an unfair advantage. I mean, yeah, that's what you earn with a strong season and finish to your season. You earn that advantage. It's not handed to you after you lose 6 of your last 9 conference games. No one just gives it to you.

I'm pulling for the Gophers against UCLA! But I'm already looking forward to next year. What a season to get season tickets for the first time!
